Vellico, Richard of Lauderhill passed away on 1-13-2014 at the age of 68. He is survived by his brother Robert Vellico and is niece Deborah Vellico. Richard was the son of Andrew and Katherine Vellico.
Richard graduated McArthur High School in 1963. He then went to Broward Community College and graduated in 1967 with a A.S. degree.
He served in the Army as a helicopter pilot. He spent a year in Vietnam as a Hewey Transport Pilot transporting troops, equipment , food and water into combat zones along with bringing back the dead and wounded from those areas. He received The Flying Cross, The Air Medal, The Bronze Star, along with other awards. He completed his service as a Chief Warrant Officer with an Honorable Discharge.
After the military he worked at Five Ash Water Treatment Plant in Ft. Lauderdale, and continued his education at Florida Atlantic University graduating in 1993 with a B.B.A.. He later worked for Broward County in accounting and retired from that position.
In his retired years he enjoyed visiting his family and visiting his friends at the American Legion, post 180.
Richard Vellico was a gentle generous man who will be missed very much by those who new and loved him.
Services will be held at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 200 West Copan's Road, Pompano Beach, Florida, 33064 at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday , January 25, 2014.
