Rick was born in Boise, Idaho on January 9, 1962 as the fourth child of Donna and Martin Steele. Rick had two older brothers, Kevin and Brad, one older sister Cindy and one younger sister Wendy. When he was born Rick was diagnosed with Down's Syndrome. As he was growing up Rick learned to walk and talk later than other kids. He was happy and loved to play with his brothers and sisters. Rick attended special education programs and schools that were available to meet his needs. Rick moved with his family to Salt Lake City , Utah and then to Littleton, Colorado where he spent his entire life. Rick participated in Special Olympics and was very active. Rick occasionally expressed frustration at his lack of ability to communicate and do things he wanted to do. Most of the time Rick was cooperative, funny, entertaining and cute. Rick liked things to be organized and in order. He was not afraid to let you know if he didn't like something. He loved holding a Frisbee and his favorite outing was to McDonald's for a cheeseburger, fries and chocolate shake. He was a Denver Broncos fan. As Rick became an adult he moved to a Group home where he could receive the care and supervision that he needed. He had a job at the King Soopers warehouse and loved to work. He enjoyed outings especially jeep rides in the mountains. Rick experienced health problems from time to time through his life. He passed away Sunday, June 15, 2014 at the age of 52 from complications with Pneumonia. Rick was never married.
