Obituary

Rita Jean Schwenn Burgdorf peacefully stepped into heaven on January 4, 2014, after battling lung cancer. She was an impressive woman, perhaps not by any one thing she did, but by how she played the many hands that life dealt her. She was both a member and an officer of the Eagles Auxiliary of Mount Vernon, IN and also a member of the Women of the Moose of Mount Vernon. She enjoyed her many travels with her husband, Jerry, throughout their life together and she loved reading "The Night Before Christmas" to her children on Christmas Eve. She loved Cheetos but adored frosted Christmas cookies, made using her own mother's recipe....

She loved Cheetos but adored frosted Christmas cookies, made using her own mother's recipe. She loved to shout out with excitement at the TV screen during football games and to try to be the first one to solve the Wheel of Fortune puzzle. She took pleasure in playing board and card games, particularly Rummy and UNO.

Rita was born to Fredrick Oliver Schwenn and Helen Myra Howey Schwenn on October 22, 1939, in Calumet City, IL. Rita's parents preceded her in death as well as her brother, Fredrick Earl Schwenn; her sister, Barbara Jean Schwenn Williamson; and her eldest son, Paul Wesley Williamson, Jr.

She is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Gareld "Jerry" Burgdorf, of 23 years; her sisters, Dixieanna Schwenn Monteabaro and Marianne "Pat" Schwenn Blanchard; four children, Pamela Jeanne Williamson of Alma, AR, Judith Diane Williamson (Victor) Bernard, Jr. of Independence, MO, Sandra Kay Williamson (Ronald) Beliles of Chester, AR and Mark Allan Williamson (Jocelyn Pasol) of Flower Mound, TX; two step-children, Ricky Allen (Regina) Burgdorf of Evansville and Lisa Gayle Burgdorf (Larry) Clayton of Pleasant View, TN; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services, where she will be warmly remembered, will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, January 8, 2014, at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Rev. Ferd Elfreich, and she will be laid to rest in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Tuesday from 3:00 to 7:00 PM and Wednesday from 12:00 PM until service time at the funeral home.

The family would like to extend their appreciation and gratitude to all the staff at Pine Haven Health and Rehabilitation, Evansville, Indiana and Southern Care Hospice, Evansville, Indiana for their dedicated and compassionate care in her time of need.

Condolences may be made online at www.AlexanderWestChapel.com.
