Rita E. Tileston, 88, passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2014. She was born in Boston, MA and was raised in Bronx, NY. Rita attended St. Jean the Baptist High School in New York City on a scholarship. There she participated in basketball and softball. She was a lifelong die hard NY Yankee fan. She married Ralph J. Tileston, Jr. in 1949. Together they raised four children in Ridgewood, NJ. Rita E. Tileston, 88, passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2014.

She was born in Boston, MA and was raised in Bronx, NY.

Rita attended St. Jean the Baptist High School in New York City on a scholarship. There she participated in basketball and softball. She was a lifelong die hard NY Yankee fan.

She married Ralph J. Tileston, Jr. in 1949. Together they raised four children in Ridgewood, NJ. There, Rita was very active in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. She was a Regent of the Catholic Daughters of America. She also volunteered at Covenant House in New York City and Eva's Kitchen in Paterson, NJ.

Rita moved to FL in 1985 and became active in St. Anastasia Church, where she worked with Outreach Ministry. While working at the church she enjoyed friends, family and volunteered at various soup kitchens and served in the Appalachian Mountains in Kentucky. She also was a former President of the Ladies of The Knights of Columbus in Fort Pierce, FL. Rita was an avid reader and bowler. She was a member of the Spanish Lakes Country Club Bowling League.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Ralph J. Tileston, Jr.; sons Ralph D. Tileston and wife Suzanne, of SC; Tim Tileston and wife Karen, of NJ; daughter Tess Couture, of NJ; sisters Mary Kovacs, of Fort Pierce, FL and Dorothy Hogan, of Fort Pierce, FL; brother Phillip Joy, of Vero Beach, FL; 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

She is predeceased by her son Matthew Tileston; parents Frances Healy and James Joy; brothers James and Joseph and sister Cecilia Quealy.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 28, 2014 from 4:00pm-7:00pm, with a prayer service at 5:00pm at Aycock Funeral Home, Fort Pierce, FL. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at 10:30am at St. Anastasia Church, 407 S. 33 St. Fort Pierce, FL.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rita's name to: St. Anastasia School 401 S 33rd Street, Fort Pierce, FL 34947.
