Funeral services honoring Robert Joseph Tippit, 64, of Minden, will be held Thursday, May 8, at 2:00 P.M. at the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Keithville, Louisiana. Officiating will be Reverend Steve Gilley of Minden First Baptist Church. Bob was born May 23, 1949 in Baton Rouge, LA, and passed away on May 3, 2014 after a year long battle with cancer.
Bob is survived by family who loved him: wife, Nancy Hone Tippit; his daughters and sons-in-law, Shanda and Brian Schoeff of Bossier City, Dana and Benny Bridges of Shreveport; son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Andrea Tippit, 6 grandchildren, Zach and Andrew Tippit, Samantha Purvis, Jacob Bridges, Landon and Alexander Schoeff; Bob's mother, Ruth Horton Nolan of Shreveport; sisters and brothers –in-law, Gayle and John Savage of Shreveport, Kathi Moore and Macil Wikie of Monroe, and Tina and Joey Hester of Shreveport. He was preceded in death by his father, Alvin Joseph Tippit, Jr. of Monroe and his stepfather, Van Ross Nolan of Shreveport.
Bob grew up in Monroe, came to know the Lord Jesus at an early age, and was baptized on April 10, 1960, at College Place Baptist Church. He graduated from Neville High School where he played fullback for the legendary Coach Ruple. He attended Northeast Louisiana University and the University of Alabama. He served his country honorably in the United States Air Force, stationed in Thailand and Vietnam during the Vietnam conflict. After his four active duty years of military service, Bob returned to Louisiana where he began his career with the plastics industry. He was employed for twenty-four years with Ludlow/Berry Plastics in Homer as New Products Development Manager. Most recently, he was a partner with GT Products.
Known as incredibly smart and funny, with a keen memory, Bob also was creative and talented with wood-working. He could refinish and renovate anything, from antique furniture to major home projects. He always had several projects going and his skill was evident in the finished result. His greatest enjoyment in his last years came from his grandchildren. Whether helping them win a cub scout derby race or building elaborate lego sets, "Da" was totally involved with them. He was thrilled and proud at each of their individual abilities, accomplishments, and personalities. Bob had an amazingly generous and loving spirit.
Honoring Bob as pallbearers will be Brad Tippit, Benny Bridges, Brian Schoeff, John Savage, J.D. Savage, and Donnie Irby.
