I remember Robert from 10th grade Boy's Home Ec. under Ms. Howell. He was part of my team in putting on a skit about proper dress clothes. A fine and wonderful guy he was.

My heart breaks for you, Ida, and for Robert and your family.
I will be forever grateful for having known Robert for all these years; his smile, his warm, enthusiastic welcomes to our high school reunions, and the gift he gave to all of us for being here in our lives, and touching us in such profound ways.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
I am so deeply sorry.

I first met Robert in 2nd grade and we went through high school together - Hermitage High, Class of 1967. Some people you never forget ... Robert is one of those. He was a good person but I mostly remember his discipline and determination.
It was good seeing him at our 50th reunion - it shows he cared for his classmates, as we did him.

What a joy it is to be able to call Robert my friend. I will always cherish the moments I was able to fellowship with him following Sunday services. He and I were able to joke and play with each other knowing that it was motivated by mutual love and respect. Most recently fussing back and forth that Christmas was going to be a box of rocks for him. Robert always displayed his sincere and deepest love for Ida. As their pastor I cannot count the times that the two of them came to the alter and knelt in prayer together.
His passing came as a shock to so many of us but not to God. It comforts me to personally know of his faith and trust in God. Our loss is truly his gain.

Mr. and Mrs. Chalkley were so sweet together. It was such a joy to see them at church, always joyfully shaking hands with members and guests. I would often see them when I was on my lunch break at the Willow Lawn Shopping Center.
Ida, I know you will miss him. Take joy in knowing you will see him again. May God comfort you.

We didn't know Mr. Chalkley very well, but what we do know is he was a very sweet man. We sat behind him and his wife at church. He was always so kind and smiley as he shook hands. I (Heather) am truly thankful I got to shake his hand the Sunday before he passed away. We are praying for his family.
