Obituary

Fred passed peacefully from this life the morning of July 21st, after a gradual decline in health. He was surrounded and supported by his loving family and caregivers during the last days of his life. Fred was born in Red Level, Alabama, but resided in Pensacola. He was a successful entrepreneur and had a passion for acrobatics and gymnastics. He loved his family and loved spending time with them. Fred is survived by one brother, Gene Burks and wife, Lessie; two sisters, Johnnie Girdener and Ida Lee Schofield; six children (and their spouses): Robert F. Burks, Jr., Roberta Harrell, Richard R. Fred passed peacefully from this life the morning of July 21st, after a gradual decline in health. He was surrounded and supported by his loving family and caregivers during the last days of his life. Fred was born in Red Level, Alabama, but resided in Pensacola. He was a successful entrepreneur and had a passion for acrobatics and gymnastics. He loved his family and loved spending time with them.
Fred is survived by one brother, Gene Burks and wife, Lessie; two sisters, Johnnie Girdener and Ida Lee Schofield; six children (and their spouses): Robert F. Burks, Jr., Roberta Harrell, Richard R. Burks, Susan Vaughn, Cathy Willis, Patricia Hardy and nineteen grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Brinkley Burks; mother, Sally Pearl Findley; wife, Alma Irizarry Burks; son, Frank Merritt; two brothers, Edgar Burks and Allison Burks; and one sister, Fannie Lou Tompkins.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, July 24, 2014 at Bayview Fisher-Pou Chapel with Pastor Jason Lindsey officiating.
Entombment will follow at Bayview Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., Thursday.
