Robert G. "Chip" Mayer, 70, a proud father of three children, died peacefully at Alive Hospice in Nashville, Tenn. on August 2, 2017.Born on May 15, 1947 in Lancaster, Penn., Mr. Mayer's family later moved to Nashville where Mr. Mayer graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1965. He served six years in the U.S. Naval Air Reserve and Tennessee Air National Guard. He was a graduate in accounting from George Peabody College in 1969.For most of his career, Mr. Mayer worked as a CPA in corporate financial management. Beginning in the 1970s, he worked for Genesco, starting at the Nashville location, then moving to Knoxville and Lexington, Ken. In 1981, Mr. Mayer returned to Nashville to work for International Clinical Laboratories. In 1989, Mr. Mayer joined Third National Bank, which had recently merged with SunTrust. Mr. Mayer retired from SunTrust as a Vice President and Trust Officer. Mr. Mayer is survived by his three children: Marcus, Gregg and Lisa. Linda Sue Mayer is the mother of his children. He is also survived by his older brother, Chuck Mayer, and younger sister, Patty Higgins. He has six grandchildren: Jordan, Matthew, Caitlyn, Abby, Kinsley, and Annabelle. Mr. Mayer loved the City of Nashville, taking pride in the City's accomplishments and growth. He was an astute student of the City's history. He loved college football, classic movies, the Tennessee Titans, tours of Civil War battlefields, Porsches, walks at Radnor Lake, and summer trips to Ft. Walton beach in Florida. Most of all, he loved his three children. Memorial visitation and reception will be Saturday, August 12, 2017, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home, with the placing of Mr. Mayer's ashes into the cremation garden at Woodlawn Memorial Park at 3 p.m. In memory, donations may be sent to Friends of Radnor Lake.

I worked with Chip at SunTrust for many years and adored him. He was soft spoken, kind hearted and a joy to work with. I saw lots of family pictures over the years and I know his family was most important to him. I will be out of town Saturday but wanted his family to know I was thinking of them and their loss.
