Robert "Big Bob" Harrison West Jr.
February 3, 1943 - March 17, 2017
RUSSIAVILLE- Robert H. West Jr. passed away at his home Friday morning unexpectedly. Robert was born to Robert and Alma (Bibby) West in Huntingdon, PA. Robert was raised in Mt. Union PA, graduating from Captain Jack High School in 1961. In 1964 he graduated from Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology in Lancaster, PA. Bob proudly served in the U.S.A.F. during the Vietnam Era receiving an honorable discharge in 1968.
Bob accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of the Mt. Hope Baptist Church in Mt. Union PA. He retired from Daimler Chrysler in 2003 where he was a good standing member of UAW Local 685. Other memberships include Elks 490 of Kokomo, the American Legion Post 177, and the VFW of Kokomo. He was an avid bowler, pool player, and golfer. Bob has been active in several clubs including the Aquarius Club and the Back Yard Gang. He previously coached YABA Leagues, PAL teams, and served as president of the Kokomo Cadets.
On September 26, 1965 Bob married JoAnne Curry, from that union are 5 daughters: Merry Young, Cynthia (Eric) Ussery, Carol Freeman, Michelle Isaac, Sieta (Latura) Coleman. He has one son; John (Michelle) Norris. Bob is survived by JoAnne, his 6 children, companion Jerri Dye, brother William (Lillian) Overby Sr., sister Wanda West, 21 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, brother Vernon Overby, and sister Letitia Turner.
There will be a gathering of friends and family Friday March 24, 2017 at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home 2097 West Alto Road Kokomo IN. from 4:00pm-8:00pm. A funeral service will be Saturday March 25, 2017 at the Wayman Chapel AME Church 920 Apperson Way Kokomo IN 46902 starting at 11:00am with a one hour prior visitation with Pastor Jack Woodard and Min. Carol Freeman officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery with Full Military Honors. The family request all donations be made in Roberts honor to Donor's Choice.
