I've just found out about Dr. Cowden after moving from Springfield 2 years ago. He put my daughter's tubes in at 18 years ago at the age of 3. I was a scared single mom but Dr. Cowden eased every worry I had. He was so grandfatherly and professional. One of the kindest and most caring doctors I've ever encountered. He was such a blessing to his profession. He'll be missed.

I miss him so very much I have not found an E.N.T. That in my opinion could meet his standards. He was a kind caring gentle man who listen to his patients and truly cared about them, I always knew he was coming down the hall my the song he was singing I think he had a voice fit for heavens choir, blessings to his family and all who loved him.

It's been 2 years and I still miss Dr. Cowden. Not a week goes by that I don't think of him and how he helped me with my allergies. I still tell people that he was one of the best drs I ever had. He cared about his patients. I still miss the young ladies in the allergy department. They were awesome young people and I pray that they are doing well. As an anniversary rolls around, it's tough to deal with, but if we can focus on the good and positive, then the remembering can be less painful. As a patient of Dr. Cowden's, I can honestly say that he and his staff greatly enriched my life beyond "patient, dr and staff", they enriched my life by becoming people that I truly love and still do!! God bless you all in the following days. Ms. Patty

I did not know Robert and we would have been at Murphy about the same time. However growing up in Crichton, the Cowdens were very respected. Roberts grandfather was my boyhood doctor but when I was born in 1945 my father let a new obstetrician deliver me. Before my brother Stewart was born in 1951,Dr Cowden stopped by my dad's office (an optometrist). He said " Gene it really made me mad when you hired that OB to deliver Erk, I delivered you and your three brothers, and Helen and her three sisters. I want you to let me deliver this baby. Dad said sheepishly, "ok Doc, you're right". So Robert's grandfather delivered my brother Stewart who became a physician. I am pretty sure he knew Robert. I regret never meeting Robert to be able to share a story of the esteem in which his grandfather was held in old Crichton.

I'm heart broken to hear of Dr. Cowden's passing. I was very fond of him. He really cared about the well being of his patients. He was an excellent Dr and I told many people that he saved my life when he started treating me for my allergies. He and the girls in his Springfield office were like family to me. Just know that his family and his office family are all in my prayers. Love to you all. Ms. Patty

I've been a patient of his for pretty much my whole life, since 4th grade and I'm 19. Shocked that he's gone no one will ever compare to the compassion he had. He was a great man and will be forever remembered.

I have been a patient of Dr. Cowden, and was always impressed by his energy, zeal and zest for life. The doctor was the kind of person you enjoyed seeing, and felt energized and uplifted when you left his office. Dr. Cowden also treated one of my sons, and I was about to bring another to him. Here's to a life well lived. Thank you, Doctor.

Robert & I sat side by side as trumpet players in both Jr. High and High School. We took trips on his boat with our band mates and traveled up and down the coast. Robert and I would play trumpet duets at his house and his Doberman would always greet me at the door. We played many pranks on many people and laughed for hours on end about it. Rest in the Peace of the Lord my friend.

Although many here are weeping, all of us that truly knew you, knows how much you are enjoying dancing with all of those beautiful Angels right now! ;)

Robert was my dearest friend for 53-years. We met at Murphy H.S. Summer Band Camp in Mobile, preparing for football season...co-trumpet players we were. Robert was 1st Chair Trumpet and very deserving. A great musician, master photographer, adventurer... going dog sledding in Greenland, Tango-ing in Rio, photography excursions in Cuba through circuitous routes of course, Gumbo Chef a-la-New Orleans style but with Robert's special touch, and his iconic Bread Pudding with Whiskey Sauce.... Low Fat of course, he would say (ha!). He loved New Orleans.
Never has there been such a wonderful lifelong friend. The stories I could tell, most all pretty humorous as those who know him can imagine. I miss him terribly and still grieve for him and Anna & Ashley and their families, then I hear his voice and his unmistakable laugh .... and I can't help but smile. I'm glad I have video of Robert's Last Tango at the "Coolest Christmas Party in Nashville"....no doubt.
