Robert H. Adams was born in East Peoria, Illinois to Lillian,(Gish), and Bert Adams on September 15th, 1933. He graduated from East Peoria High School in 1950 and enlisted in the U.S.Navy. Bob received his basic trianing at Great Lakes Training Station and then served as an intern in St. Alban's Hospital in New York. He completed his Medical Corpsman Training at the US Naval Hospial in Bainbridge, Maryland on September 25th, 1955. While serving at the Minneapolis Naval Training Center, Bob met Dianne Tesch. They married in Watertown, SD on October 26th, 1963 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Bob was deployed to Hawaii and served on a missle tracking ship. He was later assigned as a Medical Corpsman on the USS Ranger in the Gulf of Tonkin, Vietnam. When Bob returned, he was the leading Chief Medical Corpsman at the Reserve Training Center in Billings, Montana. During this time, he was called on to visit many families in the area to inform them of the death of their loved ones. He later recieved orders to serve in New Orleans aboard the W.S. Sims. When the ship was commissioned, he became a "USS W.S. Sims Plank Holder." He served as it's Chief Medical Corpsman until being transfered to the Naval Reserve Training Center in Omaha, Nebraska in 1972. He retired from the Navy on June 1, 1980. Bob loved the Navy and was affectionately known as "Doc" Adams by his crewmates and family. Bob then worked as a Personnel Management Specialist for the VA Hospital. He retired on June 18, 1995. Bob was a member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church and School from 1972 until his death. He also served as an Elder and a member of the School Board of Education.
