DECEASED NAME FOR NEWS: Robert E. Adams

Robert E. Adams, 95, of Lufkin, was born April 15, 1916 in Trinity County, Texas, the son of the late Mary (Salser) and Johnnie Adams. He passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2011 in a local hospice facility.
Mr. Adams retired from Lufkin Industries in 1980. He was also a cotton, peanuts and corn farmer, as well as a minister for many years. He enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, hunting, and fishing. He was a member of the Church By Christ Jesus.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Martha Adams and Tommy and Sharon Adams, and Gerry Adams, all of Lufkin; daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy and Pat Knox of Broaddus and Betty and Kenneth Dry of Apple Springs; daughter, Melba Fredregill of Lufkin; 19 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; brother, Gene Adams; sisters, Vessie Chambers and Bernice Howard; sisters and brothers-in-law, Nina and Eddie Arnold and Mamie and Jack Johnson; and a number of other family members.
Mr. Adams was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years (and mother of his children), Maudie Adams; wife, Rosa Adams; son, Ralph Adams; son, Ronnie Adams; daughter, Mary Holmes; son-in-law, Bill Holmes; 3 grandsons, brother, Curtis Adams; and sister, Ruby Roberts.
Pallbearers will be Edward Holmes, Steve Knox, Dwayne Fredregill, Cody Adams, Robbie Adams, Dustin Jerritt, Kevin Adams and Bryan Fredregill.
Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons and great-grandsons.
Expressions of sympathy in Mr. Adams' memory may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 116 S. Raguet, Lufkin, Texas 75904.
Mr. Adams' family wishes to thank the staff of Hospice in the Pines, the doctors and nurses on the 3rd floor at Memorial Medical Center, and the staff of Huntington Health Care for the love and care shown to him during his final illness.
Services for Mr. Adams will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 4, 2011 in the Gipson Funeral Chapel, with Bro. James Mills and Bro. Carl Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Aldredge Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
