Robert Addison Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 25, 2013.

MINDEN, LA – Services for Robert Addison, affectionately known as "Mr. Bob", will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 28, 2013 at Hill Crest Memorial Chapel with Reverend Gary Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Memorial Park. The family will be receiving friends on Sunday, January 27, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Robert passed away January 24, 2013 at his home in Minden, LA due to heart failure. He was born in Leton, LA on March 3, 1934 to I.T. Addison and Gladys Alline Lee Addison. Upon graduating from Haynesville High School in 1952, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Robert went to work for FMC Sidewinder, Fibrebond and Exacta Inn while repairing vacuum cleaners in his spare time.
Mr. Bob was extremely independent. He liked to congregate and dine with friends every evening. He never met a stranger and was very well known by many. He loved to tell his stories and never shied away from giving his opinion. Mr. Bob was a lifelong, faithful member of Minden Presbyterian Church and stayed active by singing in the choir and being a church Elder. He loved his church family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, the love of his life and wife of 47 years Joan R. Addison, his son David Lee Addison, brothers Harold V. Addison and Elman David Addison.
He is survived by his daughter Debbie Perritt and husband Zakey of Marysville, AR, and of Lake Bisteneau, LA; grandson Matt Gryder and wife Katie of Tampa, FL; great granddaughters Madison Gryder and Reilly Gryder ; his sister Dorothy Nell Cox and husband Orville D. of Minden, LA as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family would like to extend thanks to his very dedicated piano teacher, Ann Boykin. Your time and friendship meant the world to Mr. Bob.

Well, doggone it, he left before I got to have dinner with him! I remember running around with Debbie as teens and we'd stop by the house for a pit stop. While we were there, he'd come in and say something really smart that would have me guessing if he was serious or not for the longest time. He was always testing me or cracking me up. After we all aged a few years, he helped take care of my grandmother. She was so proud to have this man as part of her family. God bless all the survivors!

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Mr. Addison's passing. We have lived across the street for many years. I always enjoyed visiting with him, and knew I could always call on him if I needed to. I still expect to see him going out to pick up the paper. It would annoy us both to no end if it was late or didnt show at all. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. He will be missed greatly.

To the family, please accept my deepest sympathies for your loss. I pray that through this ordeal you can draw strength from the God of Comfort when he says: As for you, go your way till the end. You will rest, and then at the end of the days you will rise..." Daniel 12:13

Debbie, Bob will be greatly missed at the Minden Presbyterian Church and the choir. He was a dedicated member and was always at church whenever the doors were open. We will miss him. We will keep you and your family in our prayers. Trish and Lane Davidson

Mr. Bob was such an inspiration to me. I had the privilege of teaching him how to play the piano. I have NEVER met a more dedicated or disciplined student than he. Mr. Bob's quick humor and eagerness to learn, turned into a relationship of deep admiration, respect & friendship. I am a better person because of his influence in my life. I have rejoiced for him but cried for me. He has finally arrived at the destination he started on the day he was born. Mr. Bob, I will see you soon. . Ann Skipper Boykin

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Robert Fredrick (Bob) Addison our “Brother-in-Arms”. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Bob. And to Bob it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country while serving in the U.S. Air Force. Bob, you are a true patriot, who served with honor and distinction. You upheld the finest qualities of an American patriot warrior: courage, commitment, generosity, sacrifice, love and devotion to family and country. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,261 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Bob's family and loved ones.

Debbie, So sorry about your dad. He was truly a good friend to us. Enjoyed going to church with your mom and dad and also working with them at School Board Office. Praying for you and your family at this most difficult time.
