Evangelist Robert "Bob" Anderson, age 88 answered the call of his blessed Lord on September 22, 2013. Bob was born on October 20, 1924 and raised in Huntington, West Virginia until the age of sixteen. He and his family then moved to East Tennessee, where he soon registered for the military draft. When drafted, he joined the U.S. Marine Corp. and was sent to the Pacific in World War II where he served on several islands with the Second Signal Co. and the 5th Amphibians Corp. Evangelist Robert "Bob" Anderson, age 88 answered the call of his blessed Lord on September 22, 2013.
Bob was born on October 20, 1924 and raised in Huntington, West Virginia until the age of sixteen. He and his family then moved to East Tennessee, where he soon registered for the military draft. When drafted, he joined the U.S. Marine Corp. and was sent to the Pacific in World War II where he served on several islands with the Second Signal Co. and the 5th Amphibians Corp. After being honorably discharged, Bob was hired by Mead Paper to serve as one of the company's first security guards. He served as a guard for 42 years until his retirement in 1986. While making his home in Lynn Garden, he was a member of and served faithfully Lynn Garden Baptist Church and Gravely Baptist Church. He looked forward to Sunday School and the preaching of God's word during worship. Isaiah 40:8 "The grass withereth, the flower fadeth; but the word of God shall stand forever" KJV. The Word of God meant so much to Bob that he hand-printed the entire Bible in 2 years and 11 months. The American Bible Society commended him for this accomplishment. During his retirement years, Bob brought a lot of entertainment and joy to both small and large groups in restaurants, nursing homes, churches with his harmonicas which he kept with him faithfully. He was delighted to be in service to his Lord and His creation. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, James Clyde and Bertha Martin Anderson, by his brothers, James C., Stanley, Paul, Frank, and Charles Anderson, by his sister and brother-in-law, Mary Helen & Garland Edmonds, brother-in-law, Joe Dodson, sister-in-law, Harriet Anderson, daughter-in-law, Margaret Anderson.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 62 years, Mrs. Vaudine Anderson. His sons, Ron (Phyllis) Anderson. Warren (Lyla) Anderson. His daughter, Vicky Mullins. Grandchildren; Rachel Anderson Diron, Megan Anderson, Aaron & Sherri Anderson, Brandon Mullins, step-granddaughters, Kristy Beidleman, Athena Hunter. One brother, Ralph (Pat) Anderson. His sisters; Anna Dodson, Ruth Quillen. Brother-in-law; Joe Quillen. Sisters-in-law, Geneva Anderson, Jewell Bellamy and two great granddaughters and a host of nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Life services for Mr. Anderson will be conducted on Thursday September 26, 2013 at 3 p.m. from the chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home with Rev. David Salley officiating and Mr. Anderson's son Ron delivering the eulogy. Military honors will be provided by Boone Dam Post #4933VFW.
