Dr. Robert T. E. Bishop, 88, peacefully passed away on April 18, 2017. His wife of 51 years, Carol, and three of his daughters were present. He was blessed to have lived a long and joyous life, caring for his family, friends, patients and colleagues for many years.

Dr. Bishop was born in Connecticut to Earle and Sarah Bishop. He was the youngest of three children and enjoyed a close, lifelong relationship with his two sisters, Jane Poole and Barbara Boley. He attended Trinity College in Hartford and received his medical degree from Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City. He moved to Texas in 1957, serving in the military for two years in San Antonio, then moving to Dallas where he was the medical director for New York Life Insurance. He opened his private medical practice in Dallas in 1960, and he enjoyed the opportunity to serve his patients and community for many years. After leaving private practice, he continued to provide medical and risk assessment advice to numerous insurance companies.

Dr. Bishop married the love of his life, Carol Preston, in 1966. He was the proud husband to Carol and leaves behind their three children, Judy Bishop, Cathy Marquis and her husband Alexander Marquis, and Nick Bishop and his wife, Jessica Bishop. He also leaves behind his children from a previous marriage, Anne Bishop and her husband Bob Bockheim, Robert Bishop, Margaret Emory, and James Bishop. He was the proud grandparent to six grandchildren - David and Christina Emery, Taylor, Alex and Sydney Marquis and Colson and Leighton Bishop - and one great grandchild, Brynn Ceder.

Bob (with one "o", as he would say) enjoyed a great life. His greatest joys were his family, his music, his garden and his friends. He loved to make people laugh. He traveled around the world, loved to listen to classical music, often played his clarinet, and sang in the choir at St. Michaels and All Angels Episcopal Church for over 40 years. Nothing made him happier than to sit on his patio, margarita in hand, while listening to his music, enjoying his garden and telling a corny joke.

His family will always remember the lessons he taught them: to laugh, to love and to enjoy the music (and always pee with the light on).

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 12:00 pm at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Dallas with a reception immediately following the ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (https://donate.lls.org/lls/donate) or the (www.alztex.org/forms/donateform.asp).
