Robert Lee "Bob" Castles, Sr. LEXINGTON - Robert "Bob" Castles, 87, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at the Presbyterian Home of South Carolina in Lexington where he received excellent care and compassion. Bob was born in Winnsboro, SC to James F. and Annie Stephenson Castles. Bob served his country on a PT boat during World War II protecting the coastline of Florida. He later worked for and retired from South Carolina Electric and Gas Co. as Director of the Land Department where he oversaw all of the land owned by SCE&G including Lake Murray. LEXINGTON - Robert "Bob" Castles, 87, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at the Presbyterian Home of South Carolina in Lexington where he received excellent care and compassion. Bob was born in Winnsboro, SC to James F. and Annie Stephenson Castles.
Bob served his country on a PT boat during World War II protecting the coastline of Florida. He later worked for and retired from South Carolina Electric and Gas Co. as Director of the Land Department where he oversaw all of the land owned by SCE&G including Lake Murray. After his retirement, he formed Bob Castles Realty where he sold residential and commercial properties. Bob was a very active member and an elder of the Shandon Presbyterian Church in Columbia.
Bob is predeceased by his loving wife of 61 years, Sue Shaw Castles, as well as his parents and two brothers, James "Jimmy" Castles and Tom Castles. Surviving his passing are his brother, David (Nell) Castles of Atlanta, his sisters, Elsie Castles of Winnsboro and Catheryn (John) Black of Greenville, SC and his beloved children, Robert L. Castles Jr. of Myrtle Beach, Susan C. Leland of Charleston and James C. Castles of Columbia as well as his grandchildren, Wilson and Castles Leland. Bob loved family gatherings and the time shared with numerous nieces and nephews. Bob's life was one with the Lord and he made everyone's life better for having met him.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at the Presbyterian Home of SC Chapel off of Hwy. 378 and I-20. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Presbyterian Home. Burial will be at the cemetery of Greenbrier Methodist Church in Greenbrier near Winnsboro at 2:00 PM on Saturday.
