Colonel Robert F. Daly (RET)

July 27, 1928 – March 11, 2014

Robert Francis Daly (Bob) was born July 27, 1928 in Flint, Michigan where he was raised until graduating from St. Michael's Catholic High School in 1947.

Bob was a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point – class of 1953. He was proud to attend West Point where many of his lifelong friendships began. After graduating, Bob married Jane Brady of Jersey City, NJ and they began their 42-year marriage.

Bob's decorated 23-year military career took him to twelve stops including tours in Korea and Vietnam. He served in several prominent positions including: U.S. Military Representative to the Canadian Government, Commanding Officer of Nuclear Forces – Istanbul, Turkey and numerous years at the Pentagon in Washington D.C. Bob received several post graduate degrees, including a MS in Electrical Engineering from University of Arizona (1962), and Graduated from the National War College, Washington D.C. – shortly before retiring from the Army (1975).

After his military career, Bob worked as a defense consultant in Virginia before returning to El Paso, Texas. There, he held several positions and served in the Lions Club. He later moved to Atlanta, Georgia (2005) to be close to family.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Jane and their son Robert Francis Daly Jr. He is survived by his children; Christine Lickey and husband Randy, Margaret Daly, Jane Daugherty, Elaine Daly, Peter Daly and wife Karen; sister Mary Lou Udell and husband Donald; brother-in-law Christopher Brady; grandchildren Lissa Pierce and husband Jeff, Karen Spears, Patrick Daugherty and wife Elizabeth, Brittney and Brandi Butterworth, Megan Daugherty, Avery and Ashton Daly, Christopher Lickey, and many extended family members.

Bob gave many years of his life to serve and protect the United States of America. He was a dedicated family man who taught family values, personal responsibility and instilled a strong work ethic to those he touched during his life. This is his legacy. Bob, Dad, Grandpa, will be missed -until we meet again.

Funeral Services are scheduled for Friday, March 28th at the Fort Bliss Chapel Center #2 at 1PM followed by the burial in the Fort Bliss National Cemetery at 2:30 pm. There, Bob will be laid to rest alongside his loving wife, Jane. Services entrusted to Martin Funeral Home West.

Dear Daly Family, We were saddened to learn of Bob's passing from the Military Officers Association of America magazine of June 2014. He was my Univ of Arizona classmate and car pool member. What a great time we had as 30 plus year old grad students among all those pretty young coeds, and then as my boss within the Office of the Chief of Research and Development, Headquarters, Department of the Army. Your father and mother were special people, everyone loved them.

My sincere sympathy to the family for the loss of your dear loved one. May you find peace and comfort in Psalms 65:2. Again my deepest sympathy.

To Daly Family - Thinking of you at this time and of the fun times we had when Grampa was with all of us for Thanksgiving. He was a very special guy and will be missed. He left all of us with some great memories.
Love to all of you,
