Obituary

Robert N. (Bob) Dorris, 98, formerly of Mansfield, Arkansas and Pampa, Texas passed away in Fort Smith on April 16, 2014. Robert went to join his beloved wife and daughter as he was surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 21, 1915 in Hendersonville, Tennessee. He spent much of his youth in Tennessee and Ohio. Bob was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Signal Corps and later as an MP guarding german prisoners of war at Ada, Oklahoma and McLean, TX. It was in McLean, Texas that he met the love of his life, Helen. They were married on July 16, 1943. He was a member of James Fork Baptist Church, Reid Lodge #163...
Robert N. (Bob) Dorris, 98, formerly of Mansfield, Arkansas and Pampa, Texas passed away in Fort Smith on April 16, 2014. Robert went to join his beloved wife and daughter as he was surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 21, 1915 in Hendersonville, Tennessee. He was a member of James Fork Baptist Church, Reid Lodge #163 F&AM in Mansfield and life member of the American Legion.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Helen (Allen) Dorris; a daughter, Norma Gay Dorris; his father, George L. Dorris and his mother, Florence Henry. He is survived by a son, George A. Dorris and wife, Ann; a daughter, Marsha K. Maness and husband, Richard; grandsons, Michael Dorris and wife, Shelia and Blair Ward; granddaughters, Sara Craig and husband, Blain, Jessica Simmons and husband, Josh and a ten great grandchildren. Bob was loved and respected by all those who knew him.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Saturday, April 19, 2014 at James Fork Baptist Church in Mansfield with burial at Hartford Memorial Park under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood. Viewing will be Friday from 1 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 6 – 8 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Roger Edwards, Lewis Edwards, Michael Dorris, Blair Ward, Melvin Simpson and Josh Simmons. Honorary pallbearers will be members of James Fork Baptist Church.
