Robert M. "Bob" Eagle, age 88, loving husband, father, grandfather and loyal friend passed away at his home on March 18, 2016, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Bob was born on February 12, 1928, in Harrison, Arkansas, the son of Jessie Lee and Hugh Eagle. He attended the University of Wichita prior to joining the Air Force where he met his wife of 51 years, Patricia Ann Wogan Eagle. He told her they had to get married because he could not afford the gas to visit her while he was stationed in Belleville, Illinois. After leaving the service he joined his brother, John, in a small used car business in Wichita, Kansas, Johnnie Eagle Motors. They grew the business for 16 years and eventually purchased a failing Lincoln Mercury dealership on Lemmon Avenue in Dallas, Texas, in 1962. After three short years they grew the store to become the largest Lincoln Mercury dealership in the country. In 1970, Bob added a new start up company, Honda, to the family business. He went on to become the first Chairman of the National Honda Dealer Council. In 1984, Bob and his son, John, added another Honda dealership in Houston, Texas, and the business has now grown to thirteen dealerships in Dallas and Houston.
An active community and civic volunteer, Bob was two time Chairman of the Dallas New Car Dealers Association and Chairman of the Transportation Committee at the Republican National Convention in Dallas in 1984. As President of the Cosmopolitan Club, Bob helped start Operation Smile, a program to help with dental work for underprivileged children; co-founded Help is Possible, a drug education program taught in public schools; mentored many magnet high school students training to work in the automobile business and quietly funded dozens of college educations for young people he met throughout his life. Bob never met a stranger and was always eager to share his stories. A true gentleman and always impeccably dressed, he was the quintessential "give you the shirt off his back" kind of man and his integrity was beyond reproach.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Wogan Eagle, parents, Jessie Lee and Hugh Eagle, siblings Wilma Clyde Stephenson, Natalie Eagle, Sally Treece, Hugh Eagle, Jr., John B. Eagle, Marguerite Schutte, and grandchildren, John Robert Eagle, Jr. and Natalie Grace Eagle.
He is survived by his two sons, John Robert (Jennifer), Darren (Betsy), granddaughters Amanda George (Chris), Alexandra Eagle, great niece Ashley Peron (Stephan), their sons Luke and Reed and many more nieces and nephews and dear friends that will all miss him terribly. Honorary pallbearers are Jim Crofford, Jim Ewing, Jerry W. Freeman, Sr., Meyel Haack, Fred Merrill, G.N. "Polly" Parrott, Joe Pollard, III, Tom Spencer, John Wildfong and Terry Worrell.
A memorial service celebrating Bob's life will be held on Wednesday, March 23rd, at 2:00pm at Church of the Incarnation, 3966 McKinney Avenue, Dallas, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob's honor to St. Philip's School and Community Center, 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Dallas, Texas, 75215.

What a sad day it is to say Good Bye to Big Bird, My favorite Memory was when I started selling Pre Owned Cars, a Gentleman pulled on lot, I upped Him, " How may I help You Sir"' , quickly followed with by " Son, You can't Help Me, You can't get Me Financed, I have Horrible Credit & No Money down!" As We proceeded into the Building, everyone started greeting My Customer, Who turned out to be Mr. Bob Eagle! I will forever Miss Bob, He was like a Grandfather To Me, Bob, We Will Always Miss Your Grand Stories & Jokes & We will Always Love You Bob!!!

Our hearts go out to Bobs many dear friends and family at this sad time. He was a special Man with a big heart. His love of children and his charity to those less fortunate were a hallmark of Bobs generosity. My family and I feel very blessed to have had Bob part of our family for 8 years. A wonderful time in which we created many memories and fun times to last a life time. Bob's influence on all he came in contact with is undeniable. He was a master storyteller, even the umpteenth time telling the same story which was part of Bobs Charm. He was the unofficial Mayor of Santa fe and he did so many charitable things for so many in this community , things that he did out of love and caring -- not wanting any recognition. He fed the homeless, gave new flags to the schools, donated money to several fledgling restaurants to keep them afloat, the arts, most church causes to name a few..I am proud and happy to have loved Bob, to have had him in my life and to have had him as my best friend for as long as I did. Bob, although you aren't with us any more you will always be thought of with great affection and much Love. God bless you Bob, "You were the wind beneath my wings"......May you rest in peace. Love, Rochanya , William, Nicholas and Alix Generous.

I had the privilege of working for Bob and John Eagle and I can personally say; Big Bird was a great man and made an impact on every person he ever met including myself. I enjoyed our talks about his days in Kansas and his love for his family and employees. I have been in the automotive business for over 30 years and have never met someone who was a more genuine person... Big Bird you will forever be missed to John and Darren your father was a Mountain among men! God Bless the Eagle Family!
