HOWELL, ROBERT JACKSON "JACK" Was born on September 14, 1925 in Lafayette, Georgia, and he died in his sleep on Tuesday, July 31, 2012. He was married to his wife, Nell, for 61 years. A naval veteran of the Second World War, Jack went on to play professional baseball before earning his bachelor's degree from the Alabama Polytechnic Institute, now Auburn University. Jack worked for BellSouth for 38 years, retiring in 1989 to focus on perfecting his golf game and on being a wonderful grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Nell; his son, Robert (Jay) and wife Lyn Howell; his daughter, Len Rhodes; his grandsons, Jeremy and wife Sara, and Jason Howell; and his granddaughter, Stephanie Rhodes. He was preceded in death by his father, AJ Howell; his mother, Margaret Howell; his brother, Richard Howell; and his son, John (Don) Howell.
Funeral services will be celebrated on Friday, August 3rd at 11:00 in the morning at Mountain Chapel United Methodist Church in Vestavia Hills. The family will receive friends from 10-11 at the church on Friday.
