At an early age he became a member of Glenwood Baptist Church in Glenwood, Georgia. He was a graduate of Glenwood High School and of the University of Georgia, where he excelled with honors. He was called into active duty to the Air Force during the Korean War. He entered as a first lieutenant and rapidly advanced to Captain. Most of his military service was spent in Seattle, Washington where he was their chief financial officer. Upon discharge he returned to Westinghouse and worked in Miami. It was in Miami where he met the love of his life Catherine Heater (Kay). Again he advanced rapidly and was moved to Pittsburg, Pennsylvania and finally to Chicago where he worked and lived for 30 years as a Regional Treasurer for Westinghouse Corporation. He won numerous awards and recognition for outstanding service.
He was predeceased by his parents and his wife (Kay) of 40 years. He is survived by his son Robert Harvey Kent Jr., (Patti) from Lakemoor, Illinois. Also surviving are two daughters Kimberly Ann Scifres from Bloomington, Indiana and Kelly Martha Horna (Craig Horna) from Lake in the Hills, Illinois. He is survived by four grandchildren Brandon Scott Floyd, Bloomington, Indiana, Jamie Kent Harrison (Romone Harrison), Vernon Hills, Illinois, Sarah Taylor Scifres, Crystal Lake, Illinois and Kyle Kent Horna, Lake in the Hills, Illinois. Kent (Mary), Swainsboro, Georgia and sister Marilyn Kent Knight (James) from Millen, Georgia; also a dear cousin, Hannah Pope Kent from Tifton, Georgia and several nieces and nephews.
Bob was an avid reader and a sport enthusiast. He excelled in basketball and baseball in school. He loved golf and even won the member guest tournament at fiddlesticks. He could tell you anything about baseball, football, tennis and or golf. He became a close friend of Ted Williams, a professional baseball player and they shared a lot of baseball stories. One of Bob's passions was analyzing financial portfolios and many conferred with him regarding financial and stock advice. He enjoyed serving on the Fiddlesticks Board as Treasurer for several years. Bob possessed a gentle heart and showed kindness and comfort to family and friends. He also had a strong work ethic as well as an appreciation for accomplishments of his friends and family members. He has touched our lives in a special way and will always be in our thoughts and memories.
