Robert Dallas "Sparrow" Kissling, 82, of Sheffield Village, OH and formerly of Reading, PA, passed away at the Elyria Memorial Hospital, on March 14, 2013.
He was born in Reading, the son of the late William Kissling and Gertrude (Shalter) Kissling.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Sylvia (Pizzo) Kissling.

Robert was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the United States Army.

He worked at Branch Motors Express from 1969 until his retirement in 1985. He then worked in housekeeping at the Reading Hospital and Medical Center from 1985 until his retirement in 1995.

He is survived by his son, Robert M. Kissling and his wife, Vicki L., of Sheffield Village, OH, and his four grandchildren: Bradley M. Kissling of Amherst OH, Nicole J. Kissling of Amherst OH, Kellen N. Skorupski of Wyomissing, and Lauren M. Skorupski of Wyomissing. Robert is also survived by his nephew, James M. Pizzo and his wife, Barbara, of Muhlenberg Twp.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his four brothers: Charles Kissling, Earl Kissling, Wayne Kissling, and William Kissling, and 8 sisters: Stella Otto, Mary Diehm, Luella Harbonic, Ann Kramer, Mildred Kissling, Kathryn Kramer, Jeanette Filbert, and Mabel Ringler.

Robert was very proud of the time he served in the U.S. Army's 82nd AAA Battalion stationed in Korea between 1952 and 1954. He was an avid race fan and enjoyed attending NASCAR, INDY Car and Sprint car events with his son. Robert was also a lifelong Philadelphia Phillies and Philadelphia Eagles Fan!

Bob loved talking on the phone with his friends and family. You would often find him sitting on his front porch greeting his friends and neighbors with a shout, a wave, and a huge smile throughout the day. He will be missed dearly by many, but we will take comfort in knowing his suffering is over. To all who knew Sparrow, remember him on his front porch giving us the "thumbs up" saying "You're number one kid."

Peace and Love to our Dad, our Grandpa and our friend!

Friends and family will be received at the Auman Funeral Home, Reading on Thursday from 9-11 AM. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 AM at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Epler's Church Cemetery. www.theocauman.com.

"My prayers to the Kissling family. My family and I lived near Sparrow on Weiser Street years ago. He was a wonderful, kind man who would sit on his porch..." Michele Foreman (Reading, PA)
