Ozona, FL—Robert Paul Matteson, 73, passed away peacefully at his home on August 2, 2014.

Born December 6, 1940 in Youngstown, Ohio to Elwin (Chris) and Blanche Matteson, Bob was raised both in Youngstown and in Tarpon Springs, Florida, where he graduated from High School. He attended Georgia Tech, where he earned an engineering degree and also met his wife, Janice. The two moved to Warren in 1964, where Bob launched a 49 year career with Taylor Winfield as their director of Technology and Product Development. As a senior officer of the company, he negotiated contracts around the world, held several patents in engineering design, made significant contributions to product innovation, and traveled everywhere from India to China, lecturing and instructing seminars. A gifted speaker, Bob held a flair for intertwining amusing anecdotes, economics, and politics, alongside his engineering expertise. He was also a member of the American Welding Society (AWS), the Resistance Welding Manufacturers Alliance (RWMA), and the Galvanizers Association. Of note, in 2014, Bob received the coveted Counselor Award, presented annually by the AWS to individual member for a career of outstanding accomplishments and contributions to the welding industry. He spent his later years continuing to work, along with listening to classical music, fishing off the dock of his Florida home, driving his steam-boat, and spending time with his family. Additionally, Bob was an avid athlete, participating in numerous marathons and triathalons, implementing his love of exercise into his children and grandchildren. Surviving are his wife, Janice Matteson; his brother, David (Joan) Matteson; his two daughters, Jennifer (Edward) Shimborske, of Toledo, Monica (Emerich) Herbst, of Cleveland; and seven grandchildren, Jacob, Madison, Anna, Edward IV, Luke, Emma, and Evelyn. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Elwin and Blanche Matteson, brother Jack Matteson, sister Janet Sue Matteson, and sister Elizabeth Bunnell.

The memorial service will be held at 11 am, Wednesday, August 13, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Warren, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
