Of Woodbury
Born October 2, 1933 in WV; on November 21, 2015 he took flight to heaven to join his parents, Desta & James Morris; brother, Bill: and mother-in-law, Nannie Wilson. Lowell graduated from Central High School in Columbus OH in 1951. He served 3 years in the U.S. Navy, on the USS Macon & USS Iowa as a Radioman. Lowell was employed by 3M for 35 years in the Microfilm Products Division; which he literally traveled the world. Survived by loving wife of 60 years, Jean; daughter, Valerie Spahr (Joe); son, Craig (Diane); grandchildren, Amanda Schwager (Abe), Bryan & Lauryn Morris; 5 great-grandchildren, Brynna, Kaleigh, Ashlyn & Bennett Schwager, Brantley Morris as well as sister, Elinor Courts of NJ. In 1965, moved from Columbus, OH to Woodbury, MN. Population at that time was 1900; still a farm community, with only 3 housing developments. In 1966, Lowell and 3 other fathers formed the Woodbury Athletic Association; replacing the Woodbury Youth Club. The original baseball, football and basketball programs were born. Lowell and another dad coached the 1st two t-ball teams. The first game had to be "called on account of darkness" after over 100 runs had scored. They learned pretty quickly you don't play til there are 3 outs/team in t-ball! He went on to coach Craig's baseball & hockey teams; serving as Baseball & Hockey Commissioners 2-3 times for each sport. He was also Woodbury Elementary PTO president. In 1968 he attended the Charter meeting of the Woodbury Lion's Club. Lowell was instrumental in the formation of the first "Woodbury's Day", held in Potawatomi Park in Park Hills, Lion's Club Pancake Breakfast, and funding to purchase the first Woodbury Ambulance. Lowell had a passion for golf, he and Jean feel pleased to think they played a small part in helping bring the First Tee Program to Woodbury. Visitation November 30, 5-7 PM; Wulff Funeral Home 2195 Woodlane Dr., Woodbury. Funeral Service December 1, 11 AM with visitation 1 hour prior to service at Trinity Presbyterian Church 2125 Tower Drive, Woodbury. Interment Fort Snelling. PaPa Morris - we miss you so very much! There are many stories to be told and good times that were had. The one that will go down in history with me will be the "meatloaf" story. I cannot help but think of you whenever I hear the word "meatloaf". You are very special to John and I. Thank you for the wonderful memories. We love you! Sherri & John Nance (your "other" kids)
