Robert Martin Newman, 84, of Decatur died surrounded by his family on March 21, 2016.
His visitation will begin at 12 p.m. on Wednesday at Central Park Baptist Church Decatur, AL. A celebration of his life will follow at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery, Decatur, AL Bro. Jackie Kay is officiating.
Mr. Newman was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Irene Mabry Newman, and nephew, David Newman.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Wilma Richeson Newman, two sons, Chris(Debbie) Newman, Athens, AL, and Randy(Marla) Newman, Birmingham, AL, Granddaughter, Angela Newman, Atlanta, GA, and grandson, Jonathan(Lauren) Newman, Auburn, AL, sister, Betty(Bernard) Barkley, Old Hickory, TN, brother, Harold(Mary) Newman, Old Hickory, TN, and several nieces and nephews.
He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from Tennessee Technological University, Cookeville, TN in 1954. He spent his life as a Mechanical Design Engineer. He was instrumental in the design of sugar packaging machines while working at Ropak Manufacturing, Inc.
He was a long time member of Central Park Baptist where he served as a deacon, and enjoyed teaching his Sunday School class, as well as serving the Lord in other capacities. His hobbies were woodworking, watching Braves baseball, and travelling.
Friends and family will be serving as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers include his Sunday School class, and employees of Ropak Manufacturing.
