Robert "Rob" Putman, age 49, of Livonia, Michigan passed away on Monday January 29, 2018. Rob was born October 14, 1968 to Ruth Putman and Terry (Cathy) Putman.

Rob is survived by his wife, Stephanie Putman; father Terry (Cathy) Putman; father-in-law Joseph Patyk and mother-in-law Magdalyn Patyk; brother Daniel Putman and brother-in-law Jeffrey Patyk.

Rob was my third born son. He was always a good son, making his parents proud. Growing up he enjoyed playing hockey, he started at age 6 pushing a chair to learn to skate. As a teen he enjoyed playing travel hockey, a family weekend sport where we traveled to many cities and to Canada. As a adult, we enjoyed weekly phone calls discussing every thing from politics to his current chemo treatments, and of course Red Wings hockey. He loved Stephanie, they enjoyed life together. He will be missed. Dad

Brother

Dan Putman

Rob was my last remaining brother. It feels strange to have lost both of my younger brothers. I have many memories of Rob. I am 8.5 years older than Rob. His blond hair and glasses as a small child. He was always easy going and I think we shared much of the same sense of humor and values. I got to go to lots of hockey games watching Rob learn to play and develop a strong passion for hockey.

He even developed a stronger passion for his craft beer and he was my personal consultant on what I should drink. (I am now lost!) Rob missed a good time at his wake. I am glad that was something I could help make happen.

Rob loved his pets and was constantly rough-housing with them. But in the end, Rob's real love was for his wife Stephanie.

Rob demonstrated courage and strength while fighting the Cancer. He is no longer in pain and is now at peace.

I miss you little brother!

Rob was the best son-in-law ever. He was so easy-going. In family debates, he would often say, I'm Switzerland. We shared many good times. Our trip to Ireland and our times in Traverse City will be cherished always. We were blessed to have him as a member of our family. Rob, you will be missed.

Rob was a great friend to all of us. We started as neighbors but our friendship lasted well after we moved from next door. We enjoyed many holidays and much fun together over the years. Julia has many fond memories of Rob as she grew from a toddler to a teenager. From playing games of Clue, attending Julias dance recitals, exploring the beer festivals, to building sand castles on the shores of Lake Michigan as guests in Traverse City, we all enjoyed the time we spent with Rob in various ways.

While Rob suffered greatly fighting cancer, we never heard him once complain. He was truly an inspiration in his fight. We lost a wonderful man and friend. Rob will be greatly missed and we feel privileged to have called him friend.

Love and prayers to Stephanie, his family and friends Jim, Kim and Julia

Rob fought the fight the longest, with more dignitary and grace than any one I know. His fight was in overtime when the good Lord called him up to the big team. I will miss my defense partner. Rest In Peace my friend. Love and prayers to Stephanie, his family and friends.

Rob was my youngest cousin whom I didn't know very well due to proximity. I remember when he was born. His white hair & healthy pink skin was beautiful! When the Putmans came to Moline for visits, I enjoyed seeing 'the boy's. I remember very well how much he loved Hockey growing up. From reading his obituary, I wish I known him better. From what I've read, he's my type of person whom I'm sure I would've had fun with! Uncle Terry I cannot express how sad I was to hear about Robs passing. Myself having 3 boys cannot imagine the pain you are feeling. Dan I'm so sorry about Rob. It has to be hard for you losing 2 brothers. Oh how I wish we all had spent more time together. May God comfort you all during this difficult time. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Love, Cindi

I had the good fortune of knowing Rob for almost 30 years. As an employee of my family's business, and as a friend. I always enjoyed being around him, because he had a positive outlook on life, and was an uncomplicated, decent man. Earlier in our careers he spent quite a bit of time trying to get me to understand hockey. Later, he introduced me to the joys of a good craft beer. I enjoy both of those things today because of Rob, and I have many fond memories of our discussion on both topics. I think what I appreciated most about Rob was his dedication to the people and things he loved. He made no secret of his love for his wife, Stephanie, and the life they created together. He was a passionate professional at work, and could always be counted on to do the right thing. I am honored to have known him for as long as I have, and I extend my deepest sympathies to all his family and friends.
