RIGG, Robert Ian (Riggy)
1944-2014

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of most beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, and salty dog Ian Rigg on March 8th, 2014. He was predeceased by his parents, Bob and Vera Rigg. He is survived by his wife Joanie (nee Lochhead), brother Kevin (Celia), daughters Catherine (James), Janet (Roeland), and grandchildren Anneke, Hunter, Ewan, and Quinten. The big 'C' snuck up on him, and after a mercifully short stay at Lions Gate Hospital, Ian passed away peacefully with his family at his side. Ian was born in Mooroopna Australia, moving to Canada in 1969 with a dream of exploring the world. A career as a chartered accountant allowed him to do just that. His eclectic venture capital projects saw him help VHS cassettes trump BETA Video in the 1980s and later found him on a treasure hunt for Spanish buillon off the coast of Cuba. With MFC Industrial, his work brought him to Vienna, England, and Uganda. Joanie was always his travel companion scouting unique accommodations and the tastiest eateries wherever they landed. Riggy also found adventure on the sea, participating in the Victoria to Maui Yacht Race, owning several well-loved sailboats, joining the Gulf Yacht Club, and later, enabling the dream of Atlas Ocean Tours on Haida Gwaii to become a reality. Ian had a larger than life personality. He lived and loved life to the fullest and all who knew him felt his tremendous warmth and generosity. He has left a huge void in all our lives. A memorial service will be held at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club on Sunday March 16th. Please contact riggy.tribute@gmail.com for further details. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the LGH Foundation in his honour.
