Obituary

Robert J. Rixey passed away at home on Monday, May 21, 2012. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife and high school sweetheart, Mary, and their children, Allison Burns, Caroline Marie, Amanda Leigh, and Caitlin Pauline. He also leaves his mother, Mary Ellen Rixey; brother, Norton Rixey, Jr., and many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his father, Norton B. Rixey. Bob was born October 24, 1958 in Kansas City, Missouri. He graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School, and attended the University of Kansas where he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. Robert J. Rixey passed away at home on Monday, May 21, 2012. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife and high school sweetheart, Mary, and their children, Allison Burns, Caroline Marie, Amanda Leigh, and Caitlin Pauline. He also leaves his mother, Mary Ellen Rixey; brother, Norton Rixey, Jr., and many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his father, Norton B. Rixey.
Bob was born October 24, 1958 in Kansas City, Missouri. He graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School, and attended the University of Kansas where he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. Bob started a long career as a commodity broker at Dean Witter and went on to become vice president at Central States Commodities, Inc. He became a member of the Kansas City Board of Trade, as well as serving on their Board of Directors. He was also a floor trader at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.
Bob loved vacations in Florida with his family, and watching his daughters' dance performances. Deep sea fishing trips with close friends were also a favorite pastime.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 24th at Cure of Ars Catholic Church, 9401 Mission Road, Leawood, KS, 66206, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be at 3:00 p.m., followed by a reception in the Fr. Burak Room at the church. The Rosary will be prayed at 2:45 p.m. Private burial at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Educational Fund for the Family.
