Dear Dr. Steacy.
I had you for all of my first and second year calculus courses and even tho I didn't do as well as I had hoped in your classes, your personality made me want to attend every lecture. Your sense of humor and enthusiasm for mathematics is something that I will miss.

A grateful student
Over the past few years of having Robert as a math instructor, he has easily become one of my favourite professors. His one of a kind sense of humour, and his genuine care for his students success will be greatly missed. Thank you for all your kindness, understanding, and dedication over the years. Math class won't be the same without you, but we will do our best to stay true to your lessons and make you proud. RIP Dr. Robert Steacy

I had the pleasure of sharing an Indian meal with my cousin Rob when I last visited the west coast in 2006. His devotion to his wife and children and his joy at teaching mathematics impressed me. Farewell, dear cuz. You were taken from us too soon.

He taught a few undergrad math courses to me in 1996-1997 when I was still finishing high school. He was still finishing his PhD at the time as 'Mr. Steacy' but explained with clarity and patience in the courses he taught, at times better than many full profs during my time at UVic. Now a medical doctor myself, I maintain respect for him and the dedication of profs like him who have a passion for higher education and care for students. Thank you Dr. Steacy. You are missed. Prayers to the family at this time.

Dear Robert,
you will always be with us in the department, in our seminar, and at the lunch table. It was such a pleasure to work with you teaching courses together.
It seems unreal that it has come to an end.

I had Dr. Steacy for three classes during my undergraduate degree. After my first experience in his Math 200 class, I made an effort to take as many classes as I could with him. He had a great enthusiasm for mathematics and he was a challenging and thorough instructor, but what stood out for me the most was the compassion and good humour he brought to his work.
I have gone on to become a college instructor and Dr. Steacy's style of teaching was a major source of inspiration for how I teach my own students. This is an incredible loss.
Thank you Dr. Steacy for your passion. You will be profoundly missed.

Dear Robert: You told me once that you keep friends forever; I am grateful for having become one of them. Your example of handling loss and hardship with dignity and grace, the joy with which you share humour, your commitment later in life to pursue mathematics and to excel in all aspects of your profession, your love of family, and your integrity are admirable. Your friends will always be friends forever, too. Charlie

Professor Stacy always called me by my name with a smile on his face. That was a warm welcome to the Math. department when I needed it the most. I was so scared and unsecured to go back to University after 20 years. With his gentle approach he made me feel I was part of the team at UVic. Big thank you to him. Thank you also for all his teachings and the muffins! I hope his family and his friends are together and helping each other in this very difficult time.

I don't know what to say. Dr. Steacy was my prof in math 200. I still remember his speech during my first week in university. Very sad to hear about the news of his passing away. Last time I recall seeing him was in a subway during summer.
