Robert died in Columbus, Texas last Thursday en route to California. He had suffered from cancer for two years. Born in Sour Lake, he lived most of his life in Houston where he moved as a small boy. He attended Trinity Lutheran School and Church (downtown) through the eighth grade; enlisted in the Navy at 16 and served much of his duty in Alaska and California. He married childhood sweetheart Gladys Adcock who died in October 1991 of cancer. He worked for many years as a machinist, retiring from FMC on Greens Rd. He married Wanda June Darington (Beverly) in Las Vegas, NV in October 2001. Robert loved fishing and hunting with his sons, grandsons, nephews, and brothers-in-law. He worked tirelessly with Boy Scouts of America in the 1960s and 1970s, serving as a scoutmaster, etc. Playing dominoes, telling stories and visiting casinos replaced the outdoors activities as his health declined. Most of all, Robert enjoyed family dinners, picnics, reunions, etc. He never met a stranger and at the end loved to visit with his hospice nurses and caretakers.
