Obituary

SULPHUR-Robert Dale Whittington, 64, died Monday, March 4, 2013, in a local hospital. He was a lifelong resident of Calcasieu Parish and attended Our Lady of Lasallette Catholic Church in Sulphur. He was the third child of Cedric and Vivian Whittington. He was a disabled veteran of the US Army. Robert served in Vietnam and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Marksman with a Rifle, Veteran's Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device. SULPHUR-Robert Dale Whittington, 64, died Monday, March 4, 2013, in a local hospital.
He was a lifelong resident of Calcasieu Parish and attended Our Lady of Lasallette Catholic Church in Sulphur. He was the third child of Cedric and Vivian Whittington. He was a disabled veteran of the US Army. Robert served in Vietnam and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Marksman with a Rifle, Veteran's Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars and the Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device. Robert was devoted to his mother and dedicated the last few years to her care.
Survivors include his mother, Vivian Whittington of Sulphur; siblings, Johnny Whittington of Denham Springs, Carol Meche of Sulphur, Wanda Blanchard of Baton Rouge, Troy Whittington of Moss Bluff, Raymond Whittington of Ragley, Susan Barbano of California, and Don Whittington of Sulphur; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, Cedric Whittington, and sister Brenda Hinton.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 7, in Our Lady of Lasallette Catholic Church. The Rev. Jim Winiarski will officiate. A graveside service will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the Central Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Leesville under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. Wednesday with a rosary at 7 p.m. and from 8-10 a.m. Thursday, all at the funeral home. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hixsonfuneralhomes.com.
