Robert James (Bob) Williams, age 91, formerly of Davenport, Iowa, passed away on April 25, 2014 in Springfield, Missouri. Bob was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Born on November 28, 1922 in Dubuque, Iowa, he was the son of Harold and Margaret (Revenig) Williams/Kulander. After graduating from Dubuque Senior High School in June of 1940, Bob enlisted in the United States Army in 1942 and was assigned to the 136th Ordinance Maintenance Battalion, 14th Armored Division. Robert James (Bob) Williams, age 91, formerly of Davenport, Iowa, passed away on April 25, 2014 in Springfield, Missouri. Bob was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Born on November 28, 1922 in Dubuque, Iowa, he was the son of Harold and Margaret (Revenig) Williams/Kulander. After graduating from Dubuque Senior High School in June of 1940, Bob enlisted in the United States Army in 1942 and was assigned to the 136th Ordinance Maintenance Battalion, 14th Armored Division. He served in France and Germany, and was honorably discharged in 1946.
Bob married Marilyn J. Hunt on June 5, 1948 in Dubuque, Iowa. They were married for 56 years, and together they parented three daughters. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce at the University of Iowa in 1949, and a Master's degree in Systems Analysis at the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York in 1970.
He retired in 1983 from the Rock Island Arsenal after 30 years of federal service as director of management information systems of the former Army Weapons Command, and subsequently as chief cost analyst, AMCCOM. After retiring he was a tax counselor for the elderly with the AARP Tax Aide Program
.Bob was an active member of Edwards United Church of Christ in Davenport for 50 years. He was a member and past Master of Trinity Lodge 208, A.F.&A.M. and Scottish Rite Bodies, past president of Davenport Chapter 279 of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and a life member of V.F.W. Post 458. He especially enjoyed playing golf and was a long time member of the Duck Creek Retiree Golf Club. He was an avid and accomplished bridge player
.He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marilyn, and his brother James Williams. He is survived by three daughters, Linda Truitt and husband Clay Parton, Springfield, MO; Barbara Williams and husband Harry Deschepper, Rowville, Victoria, Australia; and Nancy and husband Jeff Klein, Tucson, AZ; sister-in-law Gloria Williams, Dubuque, IA; nephew Gary Williams, Dubuque, IA; six grandchildren, Julie (Will) Mathis, Jamie Truitt, Jeremy (Nicole) Baker, Jessica Baker, Stephen Klein, Shelley Klein; and two great-grandchildren Aaron and Annalaura Mathis.
Memorial services are scheduled for 3 p.m. May 4, at Runge Mortuary in Davenport, Iowa. Visitation will precede the services, beginning at 2 p.m. Burial will be at 10 a.m. at Linwood Cemetery in Dubuque, Iowa.
