Rocca Simonelli Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 29, 2011.

Rocca J. (Roxanne) Fraioli Simonelli

..of Stamford, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, on Monday, March 28, 2011, after a valiant battle with cancer. Roxanne happily celebrated her 80th birthday eight days prior with her family by her side.

Roxanne was born on March 20, 1931, in Roccasecca, Italy to Pietroantonio and Carolina Fraioli. She emigrated from Italy in 1952 to Stamford, where she has lived ever since. Roxanne adapted to American life, was proud of her American citizenship and instilled her Italian customs to her family.

Roxanne was a lifelong homemaker and parishioner of Sacred Heart Parish. She loved gardening, knitting, visiting with friends and family, Italian cooking and watching her favorite game shows. She especially loved tending to her beautiful rose gardens that enveloped her property.

Roxanne is survived by her husband of 60 years, Rocco Simonelli, two sons, Bernard Simonelli and wife Sherri, Mario Simonelli, daughter AnnaMarie Boccuzzi and husband Thomas A., all of Stamford. Five grandchildren: Christine and Michael Simonelli, Marc Simonelli, and Caroline and Thomas R. Boccuzzi, all of Stamford. Two brothers, Domenico Fraioli and wife Civita of Stamford, and Julio and wife Lucia Fraioli of Roccasecca. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her infant daughter, Caroline.

Calling hours will be held at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer Street, Stamford, on Friday, April 1, from 4 to 8 PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, at 10AM Saturday, April 2. Interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in New Canaan.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made in Roxanne's name to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148 (phone: 800-822-6344).
