Obituary

Roderick Grant MacKintosh died at his home with his wife by his side on Saturday August 17, 2013. He lived his entire life in the Yakima Valley. A 1943 graduate of Washington State College in Veterinary Medicine, he returned to Yakima to join his father Dr. Peter G. MacKintosh's practice. Rod enjoyed skiing, hiking, fishing and hunting in his beloved Washington. An avid skier, he was particularly proud to have earned four varsity letters in that sport for Wsc. Roderick Grant MacKintosh died at his home with his wife by his side on Saturday August 17, 2013. He lived his entire life in the Yakima Valley. A 1943 graduate
of Washington State College in Veterinary Medicine, he returned to Yakima to join his father Dr. Peter G. MacKintosh's practice.

Rod enjoyed skiing, hiking, fishing and hunting in his beloved Washington. An avid skier, he was particularly proud to have earned four varsity letters in that sport for Wsc. He skied the Alps, the Rockies, the Cascades and helicopter skied the Canadian Rockies. He was a founding member of the Yakima Valley Ski Club and a staunch supporter of White Pass Ski Company. He finally gave up his skis at the age of 86.

Playing the bagpipes was a favorite pastime, and Rod could be heard in the evenings
around Franklin Park. He piped for many weddings and funerals, donating any payment to the Rotary vision project. Rod was a long time member and past president of the Yakima Rotary Club.

After retiring he took up painting and with his friend and teacher Phil Kooser, travelled throughout Eastern Washington and Oregon, seeking intriguing vistas to capture on canvas.
His warmth, kindness, humor and comfortable manner drew people to him. The family treasures its many years of memories with a beloved husband, father and grandfather.

Rod is survived by Frances (Ambrose) MacKintosh, wife and soul mate of70 years, a daughter, Mary MacKintosh Plyler, a son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Kathy MacKintosh. grand daughters, Emily Tachell, Bothell; Mary Finstad, Yakima; Caitlin MacKintosh, Seattle and Jamie Teteak, San Francisco. Four great grandchildren also survive him.

A memorial service will be held at St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Yakima on Friday, September 13, 2013 at 3:00 P.M.
