Born in Lula-Rich, Mississippi, to James and Minnie Spikes, Rodney moved to Kerman, California in 1949 where he met the love of his life, Jennie Savage. They were married in 1950 and celebrated nearly 53 years of marriage before her passing in 2003. Together, they started a family and settled in Fresno, California in 1960. After the passing of Jennie, Rodney relocated to Hanford, CA where he went to be with the Lord on August 22, 2014, just short of his 92nd birthday. Rodney's career was spent primarily as a mechanic. Born in Lula-Rich, Mississippi, to James and Minnie Spikes, Rodney moved to Kerman, California in 1949 where he met the love of his life, Jennie Savage. They were married in 1950 and celebrated nearly 53 years of marriage before her passing in 2003. Together, they started a family and settled in Fresno, California in 1960. After the passing of Jennie, Rodney relocated to Hanford, CA where he went to be with the Lord on August 22, 2014, just short of his 92nd birthday.

Rodney's career was spent primarily as a mechanic. He was employed over the years at Fresno Mosquito Abatement District, Winther Brothers, Electric Labs, and San Joaquin Battery and Electric Company. Their move to Fresno was to be near First Southern Baptist Church where he was a deacon for many years. Later, he and Jennie joined Northwest Church where he was still a member at the time of his passing.

Rodney is survived by two sons, Jim and Larry and their spouses, Susan and Kris; one daughter, Rebecca Reynolds and her husband Mike. He has seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Jennie, his parents James and Minnie; four brothers, E.J., Cliff, Haskell, and Dalton; and three sisters, Bennie Smith Rinks, Ella Sue Hartley, and Virginia Noble Carlisle.

Visitation will be held at Stephens & Bean Chapel on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

A funeral service will be held at Stephens and Bean Chapel on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at 10:00 a.m.
