Rudy Mendoza de la Vara, 65, passed away in his home surrounded by family Thursday, February 16th, 2012. He was born May 11th, 1946 in Santana, Sonora, Mexico and raised in Yuma, Arizona to Jose & Maria de la Vara. Rudy served in the Army National Guard from 1966 to 1972, spending two years in Heidelberg, Germany before returning to Yuma and later, settling in Pomona, California. He owned and operated a landscaping business for many years and also worked in the construction industry. Rudy Mendoza de la Vara, 65, passed away in his home surrounded by family Thursday, February 16th, 2012. He was born May 11th, 1946 in Santana, Sonora, Mexico and raised in Yuma, Arizona to Jose & Maria de la Vara.

Rudy served in the Army National Guard from 1966 to 1972, spending two years in Heidelberg, Germany before returning to Yuma and later, settling in Pomona, California. He owned and operated a landscaping business for many years and also worked in the construction industry. Rudy had many hobbies; he loved sports – baseball & football, including collecting baseball cards. Another hobby he enjoyed was genealogy and soon became the "go to" person for family members.

On August 6th, 1967 Rudy was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ and three months later, he married the woman who stole his heart and changed his life for the better, on November 4th, 1967. They shared 44 years of marriage, before the Lord called him home. Rudy will be remembered as a man who was tough as nails, with a big heart and a bright smile. He was a devoted father and generous and doting grandfather. He will always be in our hearts.

Rudy is survived by his wife, Dolores; children, Cynthia Ramirez, Rudy de la Vara, Michael de la Vara and Mona Lisa Luna; grandchildren, Christopher de la Vara, Jonathan, Nicolas & Sofia Ramirez; one brother, Joe de la Vara; sisters; Mary Figueroa , Norma Lopez , Artemisa Anguiz and Irma Shore. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose & Maria de la Vara and sister Marylou Torres.

Funeral services will be held at Calvary Temple of Christ Church, 3726 E. County 13, Yuma, AZ. 5:00 p.m., Friday, February 24th 2012. A graveside service will be held at Desert Lawn Memorial on Saturday, February 25th 2012 at 10:00 a.m. Pallbearers will be Rudy J. de la Vara, Michael de la Vara, Christopher de la Vara, Johnny Ramirez, Jonathan Ramirez and Nicolas Ramirez.
