FLINN, Roger Michael
May 2nd, 1945 – March 31st, 2016 (Aged 70)
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our wonderful husband and father, who died unexpectedly but peacefully in Orlando, Florida surrounded by family.
He is survived by Faye, his loving wife of 47 years; his son, Craig, and fiancée, Jacqueline; his son, Jason, and wife, Caroline; his grandchildren, Jack, Charlie, and Lily; his mother, Margaret; his sisters, Beverly (Gary), and Pamela (Gordon). He is predeceased by his father, George; brother, Christopher (Coleen); and infant sister, Anna.
Roger graduated from St. Mary's University in 1966 and Dalhousie Medical in 1971. He specialized in radiology and served in the Canadian Forces for 27 years, reaching the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and serving as chief radiologist for the Canadian Armed Forces in Ottawa from 1991 to 1994. Retiring from the military in 1997, Roger served as radiologist at Cobequid Medical Centre and finished his distinguished 43-year career at Soldier's Memorial Hospital in Middleton, Nova Scotia.
Roger, also affectionately known as Papa, enjoyed many trips in recent years with Faye and family. He spent countless hours tending to his apples at Orchard Oaks, their home in Port Williams, surrounded by the nature he loved. Roger's library reflected his love and search for knowledge and understanding, with an appreciation of science and literature.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 16th at 2 p.m. at JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (www.heartandstroke.com).

Faye and Family,
I'm truly sorry to hear of Dr. Flinn's passing while I was away. I have very found memories working with him for several years in the Radiology Department at Stad hospital. I would always enjoy the times when he would share his love of poetry with our group, his vast knowledge and his beautiful penmanship that to me now a day is priceless. He was wise beyond his years and a true gentlemen that I truly enjoyed working and having wonderful conversations with when I had the opportunity and his need to constantly keep learning was amazing. My deepest sympathy to you and the family.
He will be missed.

Faye, Craig, Jason & family, Dave & I wish to express our sincere condolences and want you to know that you are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. We all know Roger was a wonderful husband & father and can only imagine what you are going through. My bank co-worker Sylvia Sampson praised Roger saying he was a great boss having worked under him in Greenwood. While in conversation at Leo's funeral Dave was impressed at the interest Roger had in his heart issues as well as our son's Peter and shared with him his problems as well. We will always remember Roger as a down to earth people person who cared for everyone he met. God Love You.

Faye and family, so many of us here at Soldiers Memorial Hospital have precious memories of Dr. Flinn. With me, he shared his poetry and I have always believed he ranks up there with Robert Frost - beyond really. His love for you all was evident to all who knew him, and was reflected in his poetry. God Bless you all,
Janice Sheridan

Aunt Faye, Craig, Jason, Caroline, Jacqueline and Papa's precious children,
Lori Ann and I send our sincere condolences for your sudden loss. Uncle Roger and Uncle George gave me some great career advice about the military some years ago and it turned out to be a great journey, one which continues to be exciting and unique.
I have fond memories of staying with you and Uncle Roger when i passed through Ottawa years ago and i can still recall my conversations with Uncle Roger as he woke up early to get me to the airport on time.
Fast forwarding many years, thank- you for hosting our young family about ten years ago when we flew out of 14 Wing Greenwood. It was obvious to us that you and Uncle Roger had found a special place in the Valley and Uncle Roger was so proud of the orchard's fruit and beauty.
We pray for you all at this time of mourning and hope that you find peace knowing that Uncle Roger lived well, touched many and will be missed.
I promised Uncle Roger a guitar lesson a few years ago and one day i will give him that lesson.
We love you all,
Warren, Lori Ann, Mitchell, Cora & Andrew
