Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 2, 2013.

Roger Allen Styles, M.D., 63
Roger passed away on June 24th, while scuba diving on the coast of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. At the time of his death, he was on vacation with his wife, Nancy Styles, and dear friends from Under Sea Adventurers, of which he was a member for more than twenty years. Roger lived an active and adventurous lifestyle and traveled the world.
Roger was born on October 20, 1949 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. He was the son of Robert Craig Styles and Patricia Jean Douglas Styles. He served in the United States Air Force until he was honorably discharged in 1976. Following his military service, he completed his undergraduate degree at Wright State University; medical school at the Ohio State, postgraduate training in general surgery at Montreal General Hospital; his diagnostic radiology residency at the Lahey Clinic and his clinical fellowship in computed tomography and ultrasound at Harvard University and at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. He was board certified by the American Board of Radiology and a member of the Radiological Society of North America and the Society of Breast Imaging. He specialized in Women's Imaging. He was a longtime and respected partner at Radiology Associates of Hollywood. Roger volunteered his talents most recently while on a mission trip to Burkina Faso, Africa.
Roger was a loving husband to wife, Nancy Styles, and a devoted father to daughter, Tiffany Murphy and sons Robert D. Styles and Alex Styles and stepfather to Lisa Gibson VanBorssum and Holly Piza. He adored his three grandchildren: Harper Murphy, 6, Kate VanBorssum, 6 and Mateo Piza, 8. He was also survived his sister Kathleen Nehus and his brother Mike Styles who are residents of Niceville and Dayton, Ohio, respectively. Brother James Styles is deceased.
Arrangements are being made at Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Davie, Florida. The family is also planning a celebration of the life he lived on Saturday, July 6th at West Pines Community Church in Pembroke Pines. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Sheltering Wings of Burkina Faso, West Africa (www.reachburkina.com), where Roger did mission work.

Jan and Chris Peterson

We've known Roger since the 1970's when Roger lived on the first floor of a duplex we shared during medical school in Columbus, Ohio. Roger attended our wedding, visited us several times in our current home state of Minnesota, and we vacationed together one winter in Grand Cayman. We have countless memories of good times with Roger and are shocked and saddened to hear of his passing. Our sincere condolences to family and friends who Roger's life touched. He will indeed be missed. With our deepest sympathy, Jan and Chris Peterson

We have enjoyed sharing a love of life with Roger for the past twenty years and the last eleven with his loving wife, Nancy. Our adventures have taken us around the world and under its oceans. Roger always had a humerous slant on things which made for good conversation. We were glad to have been able to share with him and Nancy the last two weeks of a well-spent life. We miss him already.
