Roland J. Dandurand, 91, formerly of Boynton Beach, FL and Manchester died April 8, 2013 at his home in Longwood, FL. He was born on August 21, 1921 in Allenstown, NH the son of Alfred and Angelina (Daneault) Dandurand.
He served in the 63rd infantry division, 255 regiment company, G2 platoon 3r squad traveling widely throughout the United States prior to going to Europe. He took part in three major battles and received the Purple Heart along with other medals. At a special ceremony in Boynton Beach in 2011, Mr. Dandurand was awarded a medal from the French Legion of Honor for his role in the liberation of France during World War II.
Mr. Dandurand was a retired supervisor from Velcro USA Inc. during his lifetime he was an avid stamp and coin collector. Once retired, he learned the craft of wood carving. Many friends, relatives and family are fortunate to have some of his lovely carved birds and other wildlife figures.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Germaine; four children, Joanne Richmond of Surry, ME, Elaine Pelletier and her husband Ken of Apopka, FL, Paul and Gale Dandurand and Dennis Dandurand all of Manchester; 9 grandsons, Thomas and Eryn Palladino, Tim Palladino, Grayson Richmond and Kathy Budwine, Gardiner Richmond, Brad and Shilee Dandurand, Ross and Katie Dandurand, Derek Dandurand and Elizabeth Burns and one granddaughter, Mrs. Robert (Tracy Dandurand) Blanchard; three great grandchildren, Zoe, Abigail and Carter Blanchard; one sister, Mrs. Simone Howson, a brother-in-law, two sister-in-laws and many nieces and nephews. He was pre deceased by three brothers, Rene, Lucien and Phillip Dandurand and two sisters, Theresa Rondeau and Gertrude Tripp.
Encryptment was in Mount Calvary Mausoleum. A prayer service was held at 1 PM on Saturday, April 20th. Donations may be made to Vitas Innovative Hospice Care, 2201 Lucien Way, Suite 100, Maitland FL 32751.
