Roland O. Peteler

Roland Owen Peteler was born on July 24, 1923 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and passed away on May 9th, 2013, in Dallas, Texas. Roland is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 62 years, Agnes Lerud Peteler, and his two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Douglas Bohuslavsky, and Debbie and Eric Georgatos, and a daughter-in-law Jeanne Peteler, and his grandchildren, Leslie, Daniel and Jeffrey Georgatos, Brian Peteler, and Helen Bohuslavsky. Roland is predeceased by his only son, Brian Peteler.

Roland grew up in Minnetonka, Minnesota, as the middle child among seven children of Geneva Blodgett Peteler and Roland O. Peteler, and is survived by his siblings Dwight Peteler (and his wife, Grace), and Margaret Peteler Gray. His sister Betty Ferris, and brothers Phillip, Jennings and Leon Peteler, predeceased him. Numerous nieces and nephews, and their children and grandchildren, also survive him.
Roland graduated from the University of Minnesota with a finance degree, and spent his career working for General Electric in Schenectady, New York and briefly, in Philadelphia. Roland served in the United States Army in Japan during and after World War II.

Roland and his wife Agnes were longtime members of Grace Lutheran Church in Schenectady, New York, and sang continuously in church choir for over 45 years.

Roland generously donated his time, talents and energy to a multitude of church and community events and organizations. He served as Treasurer of Schenectady Kiwanis, the Schenectady High Key Club, and in almost all church leadership positions. Every summer for over 30 years, Roland and Agnes chose as their two-week summer family vacation to drive out to the Midwest and visit relatives on both sides of the family in Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin and North Dakota.

Roland and his wife Agnes moved to Dallas, Texas in the last year of his life.

A private family burial will be held at the Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery.
A service and reception in celebration of his life will be held at the Grace Lutheran Church at 1930 Hillside Avenue in Schenectady, NY on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 2:00 PM. Anyone wishing to honor Roland may consider a contribution to an Alzheimer's research organization.

Roland was a true gentleman and a loyal friend. Norma and I had many fun times with Roland and Ag--playing bridge, Camping at Myrtle Beach or just sitting on the beach at Lake George.
