Roland Walter Teichelman, loving husband and father was called to be with the Lord on Friday, July 4th, 2014, in Round Rock, Texas. Roland was the first of four children born on the family farm southwest of Taylor to Walter and Lillie Ohlson Teichelman, who preceded him in death. He attended Tyler Country School and graduated from Taylor High School. He married his high school sweetheart, Evelyn Ernestina Bessie Luedtke, on December 5, 1943. Roland and Evelyn had two children, Roland Walter Teichelman, Jr. and Lana Evelyn Nicholson.

Roland worked at a gas station on Vance Street in Taylor and as a ticket clerk at the Taylor Railroad Station before serving in the United States Coast Guard, September 1942 – July 1944. Returning to Taylor after his service in WWII, he worked at the City National Bank as a teller before moving his family to Austin in 1949. Roland and his brother loved fast-pitch softball, both becoming pitchers for the Taylor All Stars. His love of sports, especially baseball, and of family resulted in his wife and children attending most of the games he umpired for the Austin Recreation Department and as a basketball referee on the University of Texas Main Campus. He was also active with both children in baseball leagues and other sports. Roland umpired and refereed while working at the Austin National Bank. His career at the Austin National Bank on Congress and 5th Street in Austin, Texas, began as a teller and continued as an auditor for the then largest bank in Austin. Roland continued his banking career with Bank of the Hills in Austin, Texas. His wife Evelyn completed 27 years as a Registered Nurse to join him when he travelled all of the 48 states in the continental United States for the La Quinta/Roadway Motel chain as an auditor. Roland then accepted a position as Operations Officer of Lexington Motor Inns, moving to the Dallas area, before he retired to settle in Round Rock to enjoy his grandchildren and travel overseas. His grandchildren convinced him to be a crossing guard at their elementary school where he became known as "Mr. T". He became the adopted grandfather by dozens of children who loved him.

Roland is preceded in death by his sister Viola Moehnke (Andrew), brother Emery Teichelman (Evangeline), and brother-in-law Marvin Decker. Roland is survived by his wife Evelyn and his sister Lorene Decker of Hutto. He is survived by his son Roland Teichelman, Jr. of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and daughter Lana Nicholson of Austin, Texas. He is also survived by grandchildren Paula Nicholson, Alesia Nicholson, Jennifer Teichelman, and Travis Teichelman; all of Austin, Texas. Great-grandchildren are Victoria Bassat and William Bassat of Leander, Texas.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 from 6pm-8pm at the Condra Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at 2pm at Condra Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Taylor City Cemetery.
