Salem- Rollin C. Williams, 90, of Salem, Passed away, Monday, September 24, 2012 at New London Rehab and Care in Waterford after a short illness. He was born on March 19, 1922 in Kansas City, MO the son of the late Ruby and Rollin Williams. He was raised in Tulsa, OK. He graduated Valedictorian of his class and performed as a solo violinist in the school orchestra. Salem- Rollin C. Williams, 90, of Salem, Passed away, Monday, September 24, 2012 at New London Rehab and Care in Waterford after a short illness.
He was born on March 19, 1922 in Kansas City, MO the son of the late Ruby and Rollin Williams. He was raised in Tulsa, OK. He graduated Valedictorian of his class and performed as a solo violinist in the school orchestra.
Rollin graduated from Howard University in Washington D.C. and went onto earn his Master's at Boston University in Social Work.
Rollin served from 1943 to 1946 in the U.S. Army. After working as a medical and psychiatric social worker for the V.A. in Springfield, MA and Northport, NY, he became the first psychiatric supervisor at Norwich State Hospital.
Rollin was the first African-American professor hired at the UCONN. He retired after 30 years. Rollin was a member of the board of directors for Dime Bank and a contributor to the Early Music Society.
Rollin was an accomplished musician and greatly enjoyed opera. Rollin had a great sense of humor, was very cultured, and was a compliment to any setting. He will be deeply missed by his good friends, Bill, Susie and Tim Lesick of East Lyme and his cherished friends Kent and Arthur of NY.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 2:00pm in Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 181 Ocean Ave., New London, CT 06320.
