Ron Gilman Obituary

Charles Ronald (Ron) Gilman was born on September 8, 1939 to Charles Ashley and Lena Madeline (Caywood) Gilman in Neosho, Missouri and passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2017. He attended school in Wyandotte, Oklahoma and graduated from high school in 1957. He attended Northeastern Oklahoma A&M in Miami, where he earned an Associates of Arts in 1959, and Oklahoma State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture in 1961. After college, he enlisted in the Army and served from 1962 until 1968. After his time in the Army, Ron moved to Houston, Texas and began his career as a Director of Quality Control in the dairy industry. There, he met and married Marsha Lawry in 1972. The couple was blessed with two children: Johnnie Ann in 1973 and Charles Ronald, Jr. in 1975. Later, Ron moved to Kansas City, MO and began a 26-year career with Dairy Farmers of America. Upon his retirement in 2004, Ron moved back to Texas to be closer to his children.
During his life, Ron was active in many community and service organizations. In March 1977, he became a 3rd Degree Master Mason at Fellowship Lodge #345 in Joplin, Missouri. Later that year, he became 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. In 1978 he became a member of the Ararat Shrine Temple of Kansas City, Missouri. Ron was proud of his service in the Army. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, and was active with the both the Conroe and Willis posts. He served as a member of the Willis Post 618 Honor Guard for as long as he was physically able. Ron was a member of First Christian Church of Conroe. Ron is preceded in death by both of his parents and his former wife. He is survived by his children and grandchildren: Jarrod and Johnnie (Gilman) Walker, of Montgomery and their son Atticus; Charles Jr. (Chuck) and Jamie Gilman, of College Station and their children Charlie and Avery; his sister and brother-in-law Bobby and Jane (Gilman) Able of Stillwater, OK; his nieces, nephews, and their spouses and children: Kelly and Julie (Able) Bridges of Elgin, OK and their sons Zachary, Zane, and Zayden; Jeffery and Buffy Able of Edmond, OK and their children Hudson and Layla; Dane and Jody (Able) Sallaska of Stillwater, OK and their children Ella and Hilton. Other family members and numerous friends are also left to treasure his memory. A visitation will be held at Metcalf Funeral Directors Sunday, August 13, 2017 from 5:00pm-7:00pm with a Funeral Service at First Christian Church Conroe Monday, August 14, 2017 at 10:00am. Interment will follow at Houston National Cemetery at 12:45pm. In lieu of flowers, family would appreciate memorial donations be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Growing up across the road from Ronnie's grandparents and later when Ashley and Madeline moved to the home place we always knew when Ronnie was coming home. They were so proud of Ronnie and rejoiced when he could come home for a visit. Sincere condolences to his family.
