Dempsey, Rev. Ronald W. - It is with loving hearts, that we announce the death of Ronald W. Dempsey (in his 85th year), on March 14, 2013 in Halifax, N.S. Born in Moncton, N.B., he was the third son of Wesley J. and Queen (Manderson)Dempsey, deceased, as are brothers,Jack, Lloyd and Allison. He is survived by his wife, Joan (Randall), formerly of Moncton and their children, Wendy (John B.) Trimingham, Bermuda, Anne (James) Rodger, Fall River, N.S., Mark Dempsey (Karen Brown), Halifax, N.S., Marion (Peter) Gillespie, Hammonds Plains, N.S., grandchildren, Katie Trimingham, Jeff and Ryan San Angelo, Nathan Rodger, Matthew and Rachael Dempsey...

Born in Moncton, N.B., he was the third son of Wesley J. and Queen (Manderson)Dempsey, deceased, as are brothers,Jack, Lloyd and Allison. He is survived by his wife, Joan (Randall), formerly of Moncton and their children, Wendy (John B.) Trimingham, Bermuda, Anne (James) Rodger, Fall River, N.S., Mark Dempsey (Karen Brown), Halifax, N.S., Marion (Peter) Gillespie, Hammonds Plains, N.S., grandchildren, Katie Trimingham, Jeff and Ryan San Angelo, Nathan Rodger, Matthew and Rachael Dempsey and Liam and Hannah Gillespie; siblings Fred Dempsey, Vernon B.C., Queenie (James) MacKeigan, Riverview N.B., Betty(Donald) Rhodes, Hagerstown, MD., USA. As a youth Ron lived in Moncton where his family attended Wesley Memorial United Church. Ron was very active in many aspects of church life, choir and youth groups, which inspired him to devote his life to his faith in God and the United Church of Canada. Ron graduated from Mount Alison University in 1955 and Pine Hill Divinity Hall in Halifax and was ordained by The Maritime Conference of The United Church of Canada, June 1957.He was lifetime President,1955, of both his Mt. A and Pine Hill classes. He served Student Mission Fields in Saskatchewan and N.B. and after ordination the following Pastoral Charges: Clyde River LaTour, N.S., Central Circuit, Bermuda, Port Hawkesbury and Port Hastings, N.S.,St. Andrew's United, Truro, N.S., Woodlawn United, Dartmouth, N.S., St. Stephen and St. Paul United, Kentville, N.S., in Retirement: St. John's United, Middleton, N.S. During his Pastoral Ministry he actively supported the building of two church halls and St. Mark's United Church in Port Hawkesbury. For seven years he was Field Secretary for Evangelism, Social Action and Stewardship for The Maritime Conference Office, Sackville, N.B. Ron was elected a Commissioner to The General Council on four occasions and attended and served the Council on The Division of Mission in Canada, The Department of Stewardship Services and the Division of Finance. At the Conference level he was active on many committees and task forces and chaired three Presbyteries: Inverness/Guysborough, Truro and The Bermuda Synod and also served on divisions and committees of all Presbyteries to which he was attached. He was a member on a number of committees and boards in the communities he served, notably: The Pine Hill Board of Governors, The Board of Directors of Windsor Elms. Ron was active in Ministerial Associations and in Ecumenical gatherings in all areas in which he lived. He established Cub and Boy Scout Programs on the Clyde-La Tour Charge and in Smith's Parish, Bermuda. His remains will be buried in Tatamagouche, N.S., at a later date where Ron, Joan and family enjoyed their cottage for 44 years. A memorial service will be held in Woodlawn United Church, Dartmouth, N.S., on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at 2 pm with longtime friends and colleagues, Rev. James Fraser and Rev. Dr. Robert Mills presiding. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to The QEII Health Center Foundation, Palliative and Therapeutic Harmonization Fund. (T858) C/O The Rev. Ronald W. Dempsey.
