MSG,Ronald Sands Iler,USA, Ret. 66, of Townsend, GA passed away Friday the 22nd of August 2014 at his residence. A funeral service will be held Monday, August 25, 2014 at 11:00 am at Shellman Bluff Baptist Church with Rev. Andy Haman officiating. The family will receive visitors at the church one hour prior to the service and internment with full military honors will be held at Shellman Bluff Cemetery immediately following the service. Active pallbearers will be: Phillip Waters, Brandon Parker, Lee McCurdy, Bill Mercer, P.T. Roberts, and Dennis Dowdy. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Shellman Bluff Fire & Rescue. ...

MSG., Iler was born in Savannah, Georgia, April 2, 1948 to Sands Coy and Dorothy Rushing Iler. He graduated from Jenkins High School in Savannah in 1966.

MSG, Iler was a highly decorated soldier in the US Army for 26 years. His many medals included the prestigious Bronze Star as well as the Purple Heart. In addition to his career in the Army, Mr. Iler was co-owner of the Shellman Fish Camp for 21 years. He was a very active individual and enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. He was a First Responder for the Shellman Bluff Volunteer Fire and Rescue and was also a member of the American Legion. He attended Shellman Bluff Baptist Church and will leave behind many fond memories and will be missed by all.

MSG, Iler was preceded in death by his brother, Gary "Gabo" Iler. He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie (Brian) Daniel of Bonaire, GA; his son, Wesley (Savannah) Stewart of Loxley, AL; four grandchildren, Cole and Chase Daniel, and Bradley and Easton Stewart; his parents, Sands and Dorothy Iler of Shellman Bluff; a brother, Glenn Iler also of Shellman Bluff; sisters, Gwenn (Adrian) Chester and Sandra (Don) Dobbins all of Statesboro; sister-in-law, Evelyn Iler of Shellman Bluff and several nieces and nephews.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contibutions be made to Heartland Hospice of Brunswick or the charity ofyour choice.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home.
