On Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, the community and especially the fishing community suffered a great loss, Ron Le Garde Sr. passed away peacefully at his home. Ron was born in Shelton, Wash., to Harold and Caroline Le Garde on April 2, 1933. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. Ron worked and retired from Puget Sound Log Scaling and Grading Bureau after 33 years of service.

He was a proud member of the Cowlitz Indian Tribe. As an elder, he received a volunteer of the year award and several accolades for his volunteer services. Ron will be remembered as a very strong, opinionated and proud man with a heart of gold. He will greatly be missed by all. Ron was a great father, brother, uncle, grandpa and great-grandpa. He enjoyed fishing, gambling at all the local and not so local casinos and creating chaos at the Cowlitz elder's luncheons… right Patti?

Ron is survived by his son, Ronald "Pete" Le Garde (Debbie) of New Mexico, daughters, Cheryl D. Jeffs (Kurt) of Utah and Teryle Allison of Washington, 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Ron is preceded in death by his soul mate, Evelyn De Boer.

A memorial service for Ron will be on Friday, Oct. 5, 2012 at 1 p.m. at St. Mary's Mission in Toledo, Wash., with a reception to follow at the Mission. Services are under the care of Brown Mortuary Service in Chehalis, Wash.

Arrangements are under the direction of Brown Mortuary Service, 229 N. Market Blvd., Chehalis, WA 98532. 360-748-4496.
