Ronaldene "Ronnie" Brogden Olliff went home to be with the Lord on April 7, 2011. Born October 5, 1930, in Pomona, CA, she lived in Jacksonville 61 years. She was the only child of Mabel and Ronald Brogden. She was married to Judge R. Hudson Olliff, (retired) for 55 years, and had two children, Sharon Olliff Pittman (Dr. Keith Pittman) and R. Hudson Olliff, III, (Melva Sorrells Olliff); three grandchildren, Chelby Pittman Flye (Jason Flye), Keith Pittman, and Nathaniel Olliff.
She enjoyed working with children and volunteered at the Baptist Hospital in the pediatrics dept. for 4 years. She also volunteered at the Love Grove School for Handicapped Children. She taught Sunday School in the Methodist Church to 5 yr olds, 1st grade and 7th & 8th grades before becoming a member of First Baptist church in Jax. She taught 7th grade girls at FBC for 3 years, then felt a calling to learn to play the harp. She played the harp in the orchestra at the early service for 8 years, and dearly loved it, quitting only because of a debilitating rare liver disease, PBC. In 1997, she had a successful liver transplant at the age of 66 that kept her alive for another 14 years. She considered it a blessing to be a part of First Baptist Church in the ladies ministries.
After her liver transplant, she became an advocate for organ donor awareness and was a member of Transplant Recipients International Organization, Northeast FL Chapter (TRIO) where she found a medium for making the public aware of the need for organ donors. For awhile she was the Health Fair Coordinator and then became the Treasurer.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 10 from 3 – 5 pm at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 4115 Hendricks Ave., Jacksonville, FL. The funeral service will be Monday, April 11 at 11:00 am in the chapel at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shands Liver Transplant Center, through the Florida Foundation, P.O. Box 100271, Gainesville, FL, 32610-0271 or TRIO NE FL, P.O. Box 60562, Jacksonville, FL 32236-0562, (501©3) not for profit.
