VAN PERNIS, Rosario (Rose) IvetteAge 58, passed away on September 15, 2013 the youngest of 4 children. She was born on February 15, 1955 in Barranquilla, Colombia. Survived by her beloved husband of 21 years, Thomas Van Pernis; her sons, Brandon Van Pernis and Paul Van Pernis. She is also survived by her brothers, Dr. Alejandro Garcia-Salzedo of Bogota, Colombia and Dr. Richard Garcia Salzedo of Barraquilla, Colombia; mother, Amira Salzedo de Garcia of Barranquilla Colombia, South America. VAN PERNIS, Rosario (Rose) IvetteAge 58, passed away on September 15, 2013 the youngest of 4 children. She was born on February 15, 1955 in Barranquilla, Colombia. Survived by her beloved husband of 21 years, Thomas Van Pernis; her sons, Brandon Van Pernis and Paul Van Pernis. She is also survived by her brothers, Dr. Alejandro Garcia-Salzedo of Bogota, Colombia and Dr. Richard Garcia Salzedo of Barraquilla, Colombia; mother, Amira Salzedo de Garcia of Barranquilla Colombia, South America. She was preceded by her beloved sister, Amira R. Ballesteros; her father, Jose Hilario Garcia. Rose graduated from Rosario's University in Bogota, Colombia. She came to the USA on February 5, 1978. She studied English at Queens College and then attended a Master Degree Program in Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy at New York University. Rose moved to Nashville, TN on December 1986, worked as a physical therapist at a local home health agency for 17 years, and then she worked at National Health Corporation, the Health Center at Richland Place. Rose's beautiful smile, faith, courage and positive attitude battling cancer for years were an inspiration to her former co-workers, friends and church family. A wonderful wife, mother to her two boys, sharing and enjoying life, Rose loved to entertain her family and friends, co-workers and church family. Rose was a member of First Presbyterian Church since 1991. Her life was enriched by mission work that took her to Belize, Costa Rica, Cuba, Mexico, Kenya. Rose leaves to her children a legacy of love for mission work. The family would specially like to thank the following: Dr. Denise Yardley, Dr. Michael Schosser, Dr. Kevin McKenchine and the entire staff at Tennessee Oncology and the Sarah Cannon Research Institute. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at 11:30 a.m., at First Presbyterian Church, 4815 Franklin Road, Nashville, TN conducted by Rev. Dr. Sandra Randleman and Rev. Dr. Todd Jones to celebrate Rose's life, preceded by a private committal service. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Youth Program or to the Mission.
