Rose Ellen (Friel) Wagner, 93, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 13, 2012, at home where she lived with her son, daughter in-law, granddaughter and her family. She was the beloved wife of the late John A. Wagner. She was born in Wilmington, DE to the late John and Margaret (Kimenhour) Friel. Rose was a longtime resident of East Hartford. She graduated from the Philadelphia General Hospital School of Nursing in 1940. She was the towns of East Hartford's first public health nurse. Rose Ellen (Friel) Wagner, 93, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 13, 2012, at home where she lived with her son, daughter in-law, granddaughter and her family. She was the beloved wife of the late John A. Wagner. She was born in Wilmington, DE to the late John and Margaret (Kimenhour) Friel.
Rose was a longtime resident of East Hartford. She graduated from the Philadelphia General Hospital School of Nursing in 1940. She was the towns of East Hartford's first public health nurse. Her nursing contribution and dedication to the residents of East Hartford will never be forgotten. She was active in the community, a member of the East Hartford Garden Club, East Hartford Junior Women's Club and the daughters of Isabella. She cherished her family and the many years spent vacationing with them at the beach house in Old Lyme. We love you Mommom, you will be dearly missed.
Rose will be dearly missed by her beloved son Edward and her devoted daughter in-law Susan of Hebron; her loving grandson Edward Wagner Jr. and his wife Carol and their children Ashley, Dylan and Shane of Medway, MA; her cherished granddaughter Kimberly Kanaitis and her husband Scott and their children Kyle and Kayle of Hebron, her adored granddaughter Jody Miceli and her husband Joe and their children Stephanie Rose and Catherine of Farmington.
A special thank you to Michelle and Sue, her nurses and Joyce, her home health aide at Masonicare Partners Home Health and Hospice and most especially Lynn, her private caregiver for helping us keep her home.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2012, at 10 AM, at Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford, CT 06108. Friends and family are welcome to gather at the funeral home at 9 AM. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Wednesday, February 15th, from 5 to 8 PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Rose's memory to: Masonicare Partners Home Health & Hospice, 111 Founders Plaza Suite 200, East Hartford CT 06108.
