Rosie Wicks Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 25, 2015.

OBITUARY

Sister Rosie Wicks was born to the late Joe and Anna Cooper, Sr. on June 16,1915 in Somerset, Louisiana. She was the first child of ten children born to that union. She grew up and attended school in East Carol Parish, LA. In 1939 the Cooper family moved to Madison Parish (Tallulah, Louisiana). As a young adult Rosie moved to Alsatia, Louisiana where she confessed Christ and was baptized by the late Reverend Josh Coleman. She met and married her husband in Alsatia and on January 15,1932 they became proud parents of Willie Wicks.

In 1947, Rosie, John and Willie packed up and moved to Los Angeles, California where they enjoyed the weather and many activities that Los Angeles had to offer. She was gainfully employed at the Biltmore Hotel currently known as Millennium Biltmore Hotel. In Los Angeles, Rosie was a member of Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church under the late Reverend Sister Lucy Davis. In 1997, shortly after the loss of her beloved husband, she decided to move to Las Vegas, Nevada to be close to her Brothers. She joined Greater Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Nathaniel Whitney. As her health declined, she remained in good standing. Rosie was an avid Bible Reader and Tithe Payer. When asked what she missed most in life she replied attending church and her beloved husband and son. When asked what she enjoyed the most in life she replied attending Sunday School, choir rehearsal and interacting with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, John Wicks; one child Willie Wicks, Sr.; five brothers; George, Frank, Charles, James and Joe; three sisters; Ellen, Lilly and Vanilla. Rosie is survived by her only grandson Willie Wicks, Jr. of Las Vegas, NV; one brother Ennis Cooper, Sr. of Las Vegas, NV and two sisters-in-law; Clara Cooper, Emma Lee Cooper and a host of Nieces, Nephews and Friends. She will be sorely missed....

I'll be seeing you

I am at rest so don't cry. It will be easier as time goes by. Know I'm happy and very content. Just remember the good times we spent. As I see your faces, that makes me sad. But I have made it, for that I'm glad. We all know that it's hard on Earth. So you shouldn't cry at death, but at birth. I have no worries, pain or fear. Because I'm with God, so dry your tears. I love you all and this is what I want you to do. Celebrate my life and I'll be seeing you.
